About Archer Insurance Agency

Archer Insurance Agency is an established, owner-operated brokerage with offices in Farragut, TN (primary) and Westlake Village, CA. We carry roughly $15M in total premium across a hybrid book — independent brokerage with multi-carrier access, plus a captive relationship — spanning both a substantial personal lines book and a growing commercial division.

We are at the point where sales can no longer run informally. This role exists to build a real sales department: to recruit, train, and lead producers across both personal and commercial lines, install repeatable systems, and carry direct production while that team comes together. It is a cornerstone leadership hire.

Position Overview

The Sales Manager owns sales for both offices — personal and commercial lines. The mandate is threefold: sell directly, build the team through hiring and training, and develop that team into consistent producers. Direct selling is heaviest early and tapers as the team scales and the manager’s leadership leverage grows.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $70,000+

  • Ramp draw: Draw against commission during the initial build period (first ~2 months) to bridge while the team is being assembled

  • Direct-sales commission: Uncapped, paid monthly

    • 50% of agency commission on new business and cross-sells
  • Team override: A percentage override on production written by the reps the manager hires and leads.

  • Upside: Total compensation scales with both personal production and team output — structured so an effective manager earns well above a standalone senior producer over time.

  • Benefits: 401(k) with 3% non-elective employer contribution after 1 year, 2 weeks PTO, 10 paid holidays, Monday–Friday schedule

What The Sales Manager Will Work With

  • An existing book across personal and commercial lines to build on

  • Established inbound pipeline and marketing-generated leads

  • Multi-carrier independent platform plus a captive relationship

  • Dedicated CSR and renewals support so producers stay focused on selling

  • CRM, carrier portals, and full back-office infrastructure in place

  • Existing reps to lead from day one — not an empty org chart

This is a build-and-lead role on an existing foundation, not a cold start.

Scope & Expectations

  • Carry direct production from day one; volume tapers as the team scales

  • Recruit, onboard, and train new sales reps across both personal and commercial lines

  • Install repeatable, documented sales systems — pipeline discipline, follow-up cadence, and accountability

  • Coach reps to consistent, independent production and develop bench strength

  • Build the sales function into a true department with clear process and standards

  • Partner with the owner on targets, hiring pace, and comp as the team’s production data develops

Must-Haves Qualifications

  • Active Tennessee Property & Casualty license

  • Extensive insurance sales experience — on the order of 10+ years — with a substantial P&C component

  • Verifiable track record of building, leading, and developing a sales team (specific results, not just titles)

  • Comfortable selling and producing personally, not just managing

  • Assertive and direct — willing to hold people accountable and say the hard thing

  • A process-builder who can turn informal selling into a documented, repeatable system

  • Socially intelligent and charismatic, with a real record of developing people into producers

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience across both personal and commercial lines

  • Recruiting and onboarding experience

  • Background at an independent agency or carrier with multi-market access

  • Sound judgment on when to step in personally vs. develop through delegation

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Active California Property & Casualty License

  • Existing referral relationships with:

    • CPAs

    • Bankers

    • Attorneys

    • Real estate professionals

  • Wants a long-term build, not a job-hop in 18 months

We Are NOT Looking For Someone Who:

  • Only wants to produce and has no interest in leading or developing people

  • Hoards deals instead of building other producers

  • Is rigid and resistant to changing what isn’t working

  • Needs constant direction to perform

  • Is motivated mainly by base-salary stability over performance upside

  • Has a pattern of short tenures without clear reasons

Disqualifiers (Hard Stops)

The following factors may disqualify candidates from consideration:

  • No active Property & Casualty license and no clear path to obtain one quickly

  • Lack of verifiable sales leadership experience

  • Lack of team-building or producer-development success

  • Inability to validate production or leadership results with specific examples

  • Ego or rigidity that prevents delegation and team development

  • Escalating negotiation behavior after accommodations are made

  • Pattern of missed commitments during the recruiting process

Hiring Process

  1. Initial 30-minute screening call with Ryan Archer

  2. Personality and cognitive assessment

  3. Working session demonstrating how the candidate would build and manage the sales department

  4. In-person interview with the Tennessee team in Farragut

  5. Reference checks (minimum of two former managers or direct reports)

  6. Background check and license verification
