School Mental Health Therapist - Part Time Educational Service Unit #3

JOB DESCRIPTION

Educational Service Unit #3 is searching for a caring Mental Health Professional to join our team to provide a full continuum of comprehensive school mental health services. The School Mental Health Therapist promotes a tiered model of support, working in a fast‑paced, dynamic, and rewarding school environment. Candidates must be highly collaborative, excellent communicators, team oriented, and have strong organizational skills. Salary for this part‑time, 2‑3 workday position is negotiable based upon education, licensure (PLMHP, LMHP, LIMHP, LCSW, Licensed Psychologist) and experience. Essential Requirements No history of child abuse or negligence. Current Nebraska licensure/certification in one of the following areas: Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP, PLMHP, LIMHP), Certified Master Social Worker (CMSW), Clinical Social Work (CSW), Licensed Psychologist or Licensed Educational Psychologist. Successfully pass required background checks. Regular and dependable in‑person attendance is required. Remote work may be considered with supervisor approval. Preferred Experiences, Skills, and Abilities Experience in the provision of mental health services and consultation. Training in or willingness to be trained in evidence‑based practices such as TF‑CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, QPR, etc. Knowledge of mental health counseling, group and individual psychotherapy, diagnosis, and treatment of major mental disorders and/or psychological evaluation techniques. Experience working with diverse populations. Ability to work independently and with limited supervision. Ability to collaborate with school and community personnel. Problem‑solving skills, crisis intervention, organization and time management. Excellent verbal and written communication. Proficiency in computer software: Google, Microsoft Office, email, online applications. Bilingual proficiency is a plus but not required. Essential Responsibilities Provide direct mental health services in a school‑based setting, including intake assessment, individual/group therapy, and crisis interventions to assigned students. Assist school counselors, psychologists, or other professionals with coordinating interventions and act as intervention specialist. Maintain regular contact with parents/guardians of clients. Provide follow‑up and assist implementation of reintegration plans for students returning from hospitalization or facility stays. Prepare accurate reports and documentation for insurance billing, NDHHS, legal system, and other agencies as required. Participate in meetings (trainings, IEPs, community forums). Consult school staff regarding mental health issues, classroom observations, and service determinations. Promote community understanding of mental health and enhance community response. Provide in‑service training to school staff. Develop support groups for students as needed. Collect data on mental health outcomes for monitoring service effectiveness. Familiarize with disciplinary guidelines and student code of conduct in each served district. Assist with special education regulatory requirements. Refer students with critical needs to appropriate community resources and use an effective referral process. Coordinate with district professionals and community agencies; foster communication. Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student information per federal and state regulations. Complete Medicaid eligibility and compliance paperwork. Advocate for students and families. Demonstrate professional conduct and pursue professional growth. Comply with ESU #3 Board policies and Employee Handbook. Communicate concerns or needs to the Program Coordinator or Executive Director. Provide own transportation. Perform other duties as assigned. At-Will Employment Employment with ESU #3 is at-will.
