Controller

Position OverviewThe Controller will serve as the key financial leader responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and scalability of accounting and financial operations. This role is both strategic and hands-on, balancing oversight of day-to-day accounting functions with long-term financial planning and analysis. The Controller will work closely with executive leadership and franchise partners to design and maintain systems that support growth, compliance, and operational excellence across a multi-unit franchise environment.Key ResponsibilitiesLead all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and revenue recognition.Develop and maintain financial policies, internal controls, and compliance procedures tailored to business models while ensuring the integrity of financial information.Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual closes.Prepare consolidated financial statements and oversee related revenue streams (royalties, franchise fees, and other revenue).Partner with the executive team to provide financial insight that supports business strategy, and growth initiatives.Develop budgets, forecasts, and financial models to evaluate performance and guide decision-making.Track key metrics (unit economics, royalty compliance, systemwide revenue) and recommend strategies to improve profitability.Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and banking relationships.Oversee franchisee reporting, monitoring for accuracy and timeliness.Supervise accounting staff and external consultants as needed.Optimize accounting systems, ERP software, and reporting tools for scalability as the franchise network grows.Serve as a mentor and develop high-performance financial operations team.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).7–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3+ years in a Controller role.Experience in franchising, multi-unit retail, hospitality, or fitness strongly preferred.Strong technical knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.Proven ability to design scalable financial processes and systems.Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.Hands-on, detail-oriented, and adaptable to a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with leadership, staff, and franchise partners.Adaptability to changing business needs, systems, and growth demands.High level of attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management.Capacity to exercise sound judgment in sensitive and confidential matters.Physical and Mental RequirementsProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Ability to use hands and fingers for keyboarding, data entry, and operating office equipment.Occasional need to lift and carry items up to 20 pounds (e.g., files, laptops, office supplies).We are an equal opportunity employer and prohibit discrimination and harassment of any kind.
