• Position Title - Supported Living Services (SLS) Instructor. Independent Living Services (ILS) Instructor
• Role Overview

The Supported Living Services (SLS) / Independent. Living Services (ILS) Instructor plays a key role in empowering adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities to live independently. The Instructor provides hands-on training, guidance, and support in daily living skills, community participation, and personal development, based on each individual’s goals and abilities. Working under the direction of a Program Supervisor or Program Director, the Instructor delivers one-on-one instruction in clients’ homes and community settings. Services are guided by person-centered plans that promote choice, self-determination, and inclusion.

• Core Responsibilities

Teach and support adults in developing independent living skills such as:

- Safety awareness and emergency preparedness. - Assist adults in community integration activities, including transportation use, social participation, and recreation.

- Cooking, meal planning, and grocery shopping

- Personal health, hygiene, and medical care coordination

- Housekeeping, laundry, and home organization

- Financial management and budgeting

- Document service hours, progress notes, and goal achievements on time.

- Communicate regularly with supervisors, families, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated support.

- Model appropriate social and communication skills in all interactions.

- Follow agency policies, confidentiality standards, and Title 17/Lanterman Act guidelines.

• Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.

- Strong communication, problem-solving, and teaching skills.

- Ability to work independently and adapt to different home or community environments.

- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to meet agency driving requirements.

- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

- Access to the internet, a mobile phone, and a computer.

- Complete 12 hours of Continuing Education a year.

• Compensation & Benefits

- 20-hour mandatory training (paid)

- Starting rate: $20.00/hour, with a pay increase after a 3-month probationary period to $21/hour.

Monthly stipends:

- $30 for mobile phone use

- $115 for gas (part-time)

- $230 for gas (full-time)
