Sr. Director Information Technology

Overview Report directly to the Chief Technology Officer as Technology Director for the Institute on Aging (IOA). This position leads technology strategy, operations, and vendor partnerships across the organization, ensuring that technology supports the mission of enhancing the quality of life for aging adults and adults with disabilities. Responsibilities Oversee technology strategy and budget across all functional departments. Collaborate with the management team to align technology initiatives with organizational goals. Deliver presentations and training to executives and other audiences at all levels. Define and drive the vision for infrastructure, applications, business management, and reporting architectures, ensuring alignment with business needs and AI/innovation priorities. Lead the successful launch and implementation of new platforms and processes through strong project management and staff support. Manage vendor relationships and oversee outsourced technology vendors and consultants to maximize service value. Administer line-of-business applications to remain aligned with processes and reporting requirements. Ensure compliance with privacy and security regulations (e.g., HIPAA), including annual risk assessments, security program development, policy documentation, employee training, and technology evaluations. Develop and oversee a comprehensive business continuity, security, and privacy risk management strategy. Manage electronic health information systems to meet functional goals and regulatory requirements. Supervise employees, technology providers, and consultants involved in electronic health information systems. Lead technology aspects of facilities projects (planning, cost modeling, execution) across multiple California counties. Support remote and field‑based employees with secure technology solutions, including portable devices, remote desktop, mobile apps, and collaboration tools. Communicate and exercise leadership across the organization, sharing essential technology information with leaders and all employees. Oversee procurement, recommend cost‑containment activities, assist managers with technology budgeting, and prioritize initiatives for approval. Secure and retain technology human resources through recruitment, onboarding, and retention initiatives. Provide vendor engagement, procurement, contracts, and a structured vendor lifecycle process. Qualifications Minimum 9 years of progressive technology management and operations experience, including multi‑site environments. Bachelor’s degree (preferred in computer science, information systems, or management). Minimum 2 years of information security experience or credential in a health‑care environment under HIPAA regulations. Strong people‑management track record with engaged, motivated staff. Excellent delegation and coaching skills. Proven project‑management expertise, including workflow mapping, process improvement, and cross‑functional system integration (equivalent to PMP certification or similar). Robust technical experience implementing and supporting a variety of platforms (infrastructure, applications, cloud). Experience with database platforms, preferably Microsoft. Experience building KPIs, data metrics, data warehousing, and historical trending. Vendor‑management experience with effective relationship building and negotiation skills. Budget‑management experience overseeing technology budgets of $5,000,000 or more. Strong customer‑service orientation and communication skills with diverse internal clients. Ability to develop relationships in a fast‑paced, multi‑faced organization that values diverse opinions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel intermediate, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Visio). California driver’s license. Physical ability to sit at a desk for long periods, use phones, drive to sites, handle technical equipment, and lift up to 25 lbs; mental ability for high emotional intelligence, stress handling, and rapid change response. Benefits and Compensation Annual compensation range: $205,000 – $225,000. This range does not include equity or other non‑monetary compensation that may be provided.
