Marine Education High School Internship (2026‑’27 Academic school year) Education / Marine Education Internship (High School) Reporting relationship Education Department Duration 2026‑’27 Academic school year Internship Summary The Education Department is offering high school students an exciting opportunity to assist with the planning and facilitation of the education programs offered at LMC. Interns will work with the Education Team to prepare, implement and create interactive public and school outreach programs centered on marine science topics. This includes the setup and breakdown of program materials, assisting with inventory, specimen collections, presenting to the public and other duties as needed. Interns can expect to learn the best practices in interpretative guiding and environmental education development. Interns will gain the hands‑on experience needed to provide quality and impactful educational programs to guests at LMC! Hours Intern must be available for a minimum of 8 hours (two, 4‑hour shifts) on at least 1 weekend day per week throughout the school year . This is an unpaid, volunteer‑based internship. All hours are eligible for volunteer service hours with Palm Beach County schools. Core Responsibilities Serving as an Exhibit Interpreter to engage campus visitors with our coastal habitats and Sea Turtle Hospital Participate in STEM Discovery Cart demonstrations and the Fish Feeding talk to guests Assist in the design and facilitation of new, innovative and mission‑centric programming Monitoring and communicating inventory needs for more than 20 educational programs Prepare materials and supplies for programs Collect data for various projects within the department Maintaining relationships with LMC volunteers and staff members involved with programming Additional opportunities to work alongside other departments at LMC such as our Conservation, Research and Hospital departments Other duties as assigned Must be at least 16 years of age Must be a currently enrolled high school student Demonstrated passion and interest in the environment and marine conservation Willing to learn new skills Comfortable speaking to the general public, including various age ranges and ethnic backgrounds Desire to spread awareness of marine science education through interactive and educational programming Willing to work outdoors in Florida’s heat, rain, and wind as needed How To Apply Interested applicants are required to submit a Resume/CV, statement of interest, and an optional letter of recommendation. Applications are open March 29‑April 26th Intern Project This internship requires the intern to complete a project of their choice within the scope of the Education Department by completion of the internship. Some examples of project ideas include educational video series creation, designing new education activities, or social media content creation. Project must be determined within the first three weeks and are to be approved by the Education staff. We are also willing to work with students needing to fulfill certain course requirements.
