Fraud Prevention Analyst

Job Details Job Location: Katy Administration Office - Katy, TX 77494 Role Monitor and analyze financial transactions for potentially fraudulent activity using industry standards and regulatory guidance to protect members and the credit union against reputational risk and losses. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Assists in the development and implementation of appropriate policies, procedures, disclosures, notices, and forms to comply with legislative and regulatory changes or new requirements related to fraud prevention. Assists employees in researching potential and actual fraudulent incidents, sharing best practices and risk alerts. Identifies control deficiencies, duplication of effort or lack of controls, and provides alternative solutions. Reviews and monitors consumer and DBA accounts for unusual or suspicious activity. Responsible for working with and monitoring suspicious items across various complex fraud detection tools and systems. Uses multiple reporting mechanisms to monitor and analyze member transaction data to prevent fraud by identifying suspicious activity patterns across all banking channels and member interfaces. Conducts time‑sensitive investigations of alerted and referred transactions and individuals for suspicious activity, utilizing several internal and external resources, including law enforcement. Counsels members and/or staff on identity theft and appropriate protection mechanisms; coordinates or assists with recovery of losses due to fraudulent, illegal, or improper activities. Interacts directly with members and/or staff to identify fraud/scam components and provides member service in regard to resources available to our members. Assist BSA Officer with Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) research. Create, investigate, and submit SAR’s, with Compliance Officer approval, to FinCEN. Maintains current knowledge of the Red Flag Rules, FACT Act, Implementing Rules to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Bank Secrecy Act, and all related anti‑money laundering and OFAC regulations. Provides research and evaluation of fraud cases and accurate and sufficient document analysis and findings. Ensures all suspected and actual fraudulent situations are documented to ensure accurate data is available for auditing, training, and reporting purposes. Assists with the preparation of monthly reports to keep management informed of fraud related activities. Pursues specialized fraud prevention training to keep abreast of local, state, and federal trends. Maintains current job knowledge of Credit Union policies, procedures, and services. Regularly attends and participates in in‑house training. Other duties as assigned by management and may be assigned to work at any location. Assist Compliance Officer in planning agenda of Quarterly Compliance Committee Meetings. Performs other job‑related duties as assigned. Comply with all federal regulations, credit union policies and procedures, including Bank Secrecy and the USA Patriot Act. Comply with all fair lending laws and the prohibitions enumerated in the credit union’s lending policy. Actively supports the mission, vision, and core values of the Credit Union to deliver excellent service. Position Requirements Maintain confidentiality. Minimum of three years similar or related financial institution experience preferred. Proven experience in fraud prevention, risk management or related field preferred. A high school education or GED required. A two‑year college degree preferred. Ability to research and analyze data for equitable resolutions. Ability to manage projects through to completion. Proficient with problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to communicate with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy and model exemplary member service. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications. Become CUNA Credit Union Compliance Expert Certified within 12 months of obtaining the position. Ergonomic Considerations Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time (6 to 7 hours per day). Must be able to view a computer screen, use a keyboard to enter information, and manipulate a mouse. Job includes some repetitive hand/wrist motions. Ability to work regular full‑time hours. Ability to work on‑site at designated location. Ability to operate office machinery. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Must be bondable.
