Assistant Dean of Students for Case Management The Assistant Dean of Students for Case Management is an integral member of the Student Care and Case Management area of the Dean of Students (DOS) team. They are a resource, advocate, and liaison for Carolina students, faculty, staff, parents/families, and community partners that support and contribute to student resilience and success at Carolina. This position serves as the lead case manager for the Student Care Team (the multidisciplinary team that assesses student referrals and coordinates assistance and support for students exhibiting concerning behaviors) and may serve as the designee for the Associate Dean chairing the team in their absence. This position is highly collaborative and plays a lead role in nonclinical student case management developing and implementing both long‑ and short‑term response plans to address a wide range of student experiences and concerns. Examples include basic needs insecurity (housing, food, etc.), physical and mental health, adjustment concerns, student safety, academic, personal/family crisis, and integration into campus life. This position also leads specific department initiatives and assessment efforts related to resources and referral agencies. It reports to the Associate Dean of Students and works collaboratively with on‑ and off‑campus partners. The Assistant Dean also serves as a member of the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), the student affairs on‑call crisis/emergency team, and is designated as a Campus Security Authority and Responsible Employee. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Relevant post‑baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience may be accepted as a substitution. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Demonstrated leadership experience and effectiveness in cultivating care for students, instructors, staff, and community partners who reflect diverse identities. Experience effectively assisting and/or supporting a large and diverse caseload of individuals involved in personal crisis, mental health concerns, trauma, and other disruptive or disturbing life events with great care and sensitivity. Knowledge of current research, trends, and best practices related to nonclinical case management programs and services. Experience developing, implementing, and assessing effective programs and services. Experience working autonomously and as an effective member of a collaborative, fast‑paced team. Experience effectively prioritizing and navigating complex emergent situations and adapting to changing priorities. Experience managing confidential and sensitive information with diplomacy, critical thinking, and sound judgment. Experience applying federal, state, and local laws, policies, and regulations. Understanding of the culture of a highly selective research university and ability to collaborate with on‑ and off‑campus partners, including faculty. Availability and flexibility to work some evenings and weekends. Valid NC Driver’s License or eligibility to hold one. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Position relevant master’s degree, post‑bachelor’s professional degree, or foreign degree equivalent and five years of full‑time relevant professional experience; two years in a related graduate assistantship is equal for one professional year. Direct professional experience in nonclinical case management in a postsecondary higher education setting. Experience and skills in implementing effective programs, services, and systems that support a large and diverse caseload; 24‑hour on‑call experience is notable. Experience participating as a member of multidisciplinary crisis, care, or behavior intervention teams. Excellent communicator (written and verbal) with experience delivering information to diverse constituencies via individual, small, and large group settings and multiple formats. Knowledge of and applied experience related to nonclinical case management, student development, adult learners, first‑generation college students, transfer students, and crisis response. Experience building and sustaining relationships with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, parents/families, and community partners. Experience applying federal, state, and local laws and regulations including FERPA, Title IX, HIPAA, Clery, VAWA, and similar. Knowledge and experience maximizing nonclinical case management software; experience with Advocate by Symplicity is a plus. Experience developing and implementing operational and service‑based assessments/evaluations and using data to inform practice or policy. Special Physical/Mental Requirements Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations. Ability to drive a state‑owned vehicle on a limited basis as directed by the supervisor. Campus Security Authority Responsibilities This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. It will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training on reporting responsibilities.
