Fit Meals Prep is looking for an experienced Cook Lead / Chef to join our production kitchen 2–3 days per week .

This is a hands-on position for someone who can cook efficiently in a high-volume environment while helping lead the kitchen team and keep production on schedule. We produce a large variety of meals each week, so organization, consistency, speed, and the ability to follow recipes accurately are extremely important.

This is not a restaurant line-cook position . Our kitchen operates on a weekly production schedule, preparing meals in batches for portioning, packaging, and distribution.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook proteins, vegetables, starches, sauces, and other menu components in large batches.
• Follow Fit Meals Prep recipes, portion standards, and production procedures accurately.
• Help organize and execute the day's production schedule.
• Lead and direct kitchen employees during assigned shifts.
• Assign tasks and keep team members moving efficiently throughout production.
• Monitor cooking times, temperatures, quality, and consistency.
• Make sure food is ready for the plating team according to the production schedule.
• Communicate clearly with management and other kitchen leadership about production progress, shortages, or problems.
• Help prevent downtime by planning ahead for the next cooking and production tasks.
• Maintain proper food-safety and sanitation standards.
• Ensure food is properly cooled, labeled, stored, and handled.
• Help maintain an organized and clean kitchen throughout the shift.
• Assist with prep, cooking, plating, or other production needs when necessary.
• Help identify opportunities to improve kitchen efficiency and workflow.

What We're Looking For

• Previous professional cooking experience required.
• Experience in a high-volume kitchen, catering operation, meal-prep company, commissary kitchen, or similar environment strongly preferred.
• Comfortable cooking large batches while maintaining consistency.
• Able to read and accurately follow recipes and production sheets.
• Strong organization and time-management skills.
• Able to lead a small kitchen team and keep people on task.
• Comfortable giving clear direction and holding production standards.
• Dependable and consistently on time.
• Able to work independently without needing constant supervision.
• Calm and productive in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling.
• Team-oriented and willing to jump in wherever needed.

The Right Person for This Position

We're looking for someone who sees what needs to happen next and takes action.

A successful Cook Lead at Fit Meals Prep isn't just responsible for making great food. They help keep the entire production process moving. That means staying ahead of the schedule, communicating with the team, solving problems as they come up, and making sure cooking doesn't become a bottleneck for the rest of production.

You should be comfortable leading while also working alongside the team.

Schedule

• Part-time
• Approximately 2–3 days per week
• Daytime production-kitchen schedule
• Specific days and hours will be discussed during the interview.

Physical Requirements

Applicants must be able to:

• Stand and work for extended periods.
• Work around commercial ovens, ranges, grills, and other kitchen equipment.
• Frequently bend, reach, lift, and carry.
• Safely lift approximately 40–50 lbs.
• Work efficiently in a busy, hot and labor intensive commercial kitchen environment.

Fit Meals Prep is a Jacksonville-based meal-prep company producing fresh, portioned meals for customers throughout Northeast Florida.

We operate differently from a traditional restaurant. Our team prepares a rotating weekly menu in large batches and works together to cook, portion, package, and distribute a high volume of meals each week.
