Protecnium is an international firm specializing in engineering and technical services (). We are currently looking for a Survey Manager to join our team for a major highway infrastructure construction project in Ontario, California, USA (on-site position) .

• Project: Large-scale highway infrastructure project involving the construction of new express lanes, improvements to existing roadways and associated civil infrastructure works.

• Estimated Project Duration: Minimum 6 months. In general, when the project ends, we try to place the employee on other projects to provide continuity.

Summary

The Survey Manager will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all surveying activities on a major highway infrastructure construction project, ensuring accurate field layout, efficient management of survey data and compliance with project specifications.

The selected candidate will lead survey field operations, coordinate construction layout activities and manage the preparation and distribution of survey data and machine-control models to support construction productivity.

This position requires strong technical surveying knowledge, practical experience in heavy civil construction and the ability to manage survey teams while working closely with Project Management, Engineering and field construction personnel.

Main Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate daily survey field operations, ensuring compliance with project requirements, safety procedures and quality standards.
• Develop and implement procedures for collecting, processing, managing and distributing survey data.
• Coordinate the preparation and delivery of construction layout data and machine-control/survey models to support field production.
• Review construction drawings, design information and project specifications before distributing information to survey crews.
• Establish and maintain survey control networks and ensure the accuracy of construction layout activities.
• Coordinate survey schedules, personnel and resources with Project Management to achieve productivity and quality objectives.
• Monitor surveying activities, including field logistics, equipment coordination and administrative requirements.
• Support the execution of roadway, bridge and other heavy civil construction activities through accurate surveying and layout information.
• Ensure surveying activities comply with contractual requirements and approved construction plans.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Field Engineers, Superintendents and construction teams to resolve surveying and layout issues.
• Review survey measurements, calculations and field data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Support the development and use of digital construction models and CAD-based survey information.
• Supervise, mentor and evaluate survey personnel, promoting technical development, accountability and safe working practices.
• Participate in coordination meetings and provide updates on survey progress, constraints and technical issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of professional experience in surveying or geomatics, preferably within heavy civil construction projects.
• Proven experience coordinating or supervising surveying activities and field survey teams.
• Strong knowledge of construction surveying, field layout, survey control and geospatial measurements .
• Experience using GPS/GNSS equipment and Total Stations for construction layout and survey control.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, plans, technical specifications and survey information.
• Experience working on highway, roadway, bridge or major civil infrastructure construction projects .
• Understanding of construction sequencing, field productivity and coordination with construction management teams.
• Experience managing survey data and preparing information for construction layout activities.
• Knowledge of CAD software and digital survey models .
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general technical documentation tools.
• Strong leadership, organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
• English: Advanced / C1 level.
• Availability to work on-site in Ontario, California.

Desirable Experience:

• Experience with Bentley and Autodesk software , including OpenRoads Designer, Civil 3D or similar applications.
• Knowledge of Trimble Business Center , Revit or OpenBridge Modeler.
• Experience preparing and managing machine-control models and digital construction layouts .
• Familiarity with Common Data Environments (CDE), including ProjectWise.
• Previous surveying experience on major transportation infrastructure projects involving roads, bridges, tunnels, railways or airports.
• Experience mentoring and developing survey teams.

Working Hours

• Monday to Friday, 9 hours per day (including a 1-hour lunch break).
