Registered Nurse

The unit has a total of 32 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:5 during the day shift and 1:6 during the night shift. A charge nurse is present on every shift and takes an assignment. Nurse assistants or patient care technicians are present with a ratio of about 12-15 patients per technician. Their duties include taking vitals, bathing, blood glucose monitoring, phlebotomy, and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs). Both self-scheduling and block scheduling are allowed. Nurses work every other weekend or less, with holiday shifts assigned on a rotation basis. On-call is required as a last resort for travelers. Nurses may be required to float as needed. Nurses must have experience in titrating drips, including common drips such as Amiodarone, Heparin, Insulin, and Cardizem. The unit uses virtual telemetry monitoring. Registered Nurses are responsible for reading their own ECG strips. Navy blue scrubs are worn by staff.
