The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the institution's philosophy. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. The RN communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. The RN identifies their own learning needs and takes initiative to begin the appropriate solution. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. The RN monitors patients 24/7 for seizure activity. The RN ensures good communication with patients and families by utilizing meaningful hourly rounding, bedside shift report, and whiteboards. The RN works with the critical care team for advanced care patients. The RN collaborates with hospitalists for advanced care patients.
