Director of Marketing
The Director of Marketing serves as a senior leader within the Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC) and supports the university-wide marketing structure required to advance Loyola University New Orleans' strategic priorities. This position plays a central role in strengthening Loyola's institutional marketing, brand alignment, campaign coordination, campus partner engagement, and marketing governance. The Director of Marketing serves as the primary relationship manager between OMC and campus partners, helping academic and administrative units translate goals, audiences, priorities, and timelines into strategically aligned marketing and communications work. The position also oversees institutional marketing intake, directs project prioritization, maintains oversight on capacity demands, and helps ensure that marketing activity across the university is coordinated, appropriately sequenced, and aligned with Loyola's mission, brand standards, strategic plan, and available resources. This role is essential to Loyola's transition toward a more coordinated and unified marketing and communications model. The Director of Marketing helps establish and enforce clear engagement expectations, consistent intake and approval processes, and responsive communication with campus partners.
Lead Institutional Marketing Strategy Lead the development and execution of institutional marketing strategies that advance the university's strategic plan, strengthen the university's brand, and support enrollment, retention, advancement, institutional visibility, and other university-wide priorities. Develop Integrated Marketing Strategies and Campaigns Develop integrated marketing strategies for colleges, departments, programs, events, campaigns, and institutional initiatives, ensuring recommendations align with university priorities, audience needs, brand standards, and available capacity. Coordinate major institutional marketing initiatives that support recruitment, retention, advancement, institutional visibility, the strategic plan, and the university's brand. Coordinate Cross-Functional Marketing Execution Collaborate with the Project Manager, communications, creative, digital, social media, content, and web colleagues to ensure approved marketing strategies are appropriately scoped, scheduled, and translated into coordinated audience-centered deliverables across appropriate channels. Serve as Primary Strategic Liaison for Campus Partners Serve as the primary relationship manager and strategic liaison between OMC and campus partners, helping academic and administrative units define project goals, audiences, priorities, timelines, deliverables, and measures of success, while providing guidance on OMC policies, processes, and brand standards. Evaluate Marketing Performance, Capacity, and Risk Monitor marketing performance, campaign effectiveness, project demand, workflow, and resource utilization to evaluate outcomes, identify capacity issues, service gaps, operational risks, and opportunities for improved planning and coordination. Use performance metrics and data to inform decision- making and continuous improvement, and elevate potential reputational, operational, budget, compliance, web, digital, or timeline risks to OMC leadership as appropriate. Strengthen Marketing Operations and Workflow Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of project management systems, workflow tools, intake standards, campaign planning resources, project briefs, reporting tools, and other operational frameworks that strengthen coordination, resource alignment, visibility into workload, and marketing effectiveness. Oversee Marketing Intake and Project Prioritization Provide strategic oversight of OMC's centralized marketing intake and project prioritization process, ensuring requests enter the workflow with sufficient information, appropriate approvals, realistic timelines, and clear alignment with institutional priorities. In partnership with OMC leadership, evaluate incoming marketing and communications requests to determine strategic value, priority level, resource needs, workflow readiness, and appropriate next steps. Support Brand Governance and Marketing Oversight Promote consistent application of Loyola's brand and editorial standards, institutional voice, visual identity, accessibility expectations across university marketing. Support centralized oversight of external marketing activities, including vendor engagements, advertising opportunities, sponsorship-related materials, promotional items, digital marketing initiatives, and marketing-related expenditures, in coordination with OMC leadership and university purchasing processes. Represent the Office of Marketing and Communications Represent OMC in meetings with campus partners, vendors, committees, and cross-functional teams, fostering collaborative relationships while reinforcing institutional priorities, centralized marketing processes, and brand standards. Perform Other Duties as Assigned Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President of Marketing and Communications in support of the Office of Marketing and Communications and the university's strategic priorities.
Minimum Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field. Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in marketing, communications, client strategy, account management, marketing operations, project management, or a related field. Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives, building collaborative relationships, managing competing priorities, and translating organizational goals into strategic marketing initiatives. Demonstrated success building and managing productive client or stakeholder relationships in complex environments, including setting expectations, navigating difficult conversations, communicating decisions with diplomacy, and exercising institutional authority with professionalism, consistency, and sound judgment. Excellent writing, editing, verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and effectively use current project management and digital collaboration tools. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in marketing, business administration, management, project management, communications, higher education administration, or a related field. Experience leading marketing and/or communications initiatives in higher education, nonprofit, agency, or other mission-driven organizations. Experience supporting enrollment, advancement, institutional reputation, or enterprise marketing initiatives. Experience with project management systems, external marketing vendors, agencies, and cross-functional marketing operations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated strategic thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to analyze complex situations and make well-informed recommendations. Ability to build collaborative relationships, influence stakeholders, and communicate effectively with diverse internal and external audiences. Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing institutional needs, and lead work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Work Environment and Physical Requirements This position operates primarily in a professional office environment and routinely uses a computer, phone, and standard office equipment. The role requires frequent communication with internal and external partners and requires attendance at campus meetings, events, and occasional evening and weekend activities.
