Job Overview

We are seeking experienced Heavy Machinery Operators to support the safe operation, inspection, testing, and readiness of large-scale mining vehicles in Safford, Arizona.

The Heavy Machinery Operator will operate 20-ton mining vehicles and heavy equipment, perform detailed pre-trip and post-trip inspections, complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs), and support hardware and software testing for advanced vehicle systems. This role will also provide written and verbal feedback to engineering teams to improve vehicle performance, safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of verifiable heavy machinery operating experience, strong safety awareness, excellent attention to detail, and experience operating rigid-frame or articulated haul trucks. Experience with mining equipment, autonomous vehicles, driver-assistance technology, or large commercial vehicles is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate 20-ton mining vehicles, haul trucks, and other fleet equipment.
• Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete required DVIRs.
• Identify, document, and promptly report vehicle maintenance, safety, and performance issues.
• Operate and back large vehicles safely in mining and industrial environments.
• Support hardware and software testing of vehicle systems and equipment.
• Provide clear written and verbal feedback to engineering teams regarding system performance and vehicle behavior.
• Follow all applicable DOT requirements, safety regulations, company policies, and operating procedures.
• Maintain assigned vehicles in a safe, operational, and deployment-ready condition.
• Drive other fleet vehicles or assist with additional operational tasks as needed.
• Follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
• Maintain professional communication and collaborate effectively with operations, engineering, and field teams.
• Travel as required, including potential initial training in Sunol, California before deployment to Arizona.
• Demonstrate willingness to learn new technologies, including driver assistance and autonomous vehicle systems.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of verifiable heavy machinery operator experience.
• Experience operating large mining vehicles, haul trucks, rigid-frame trucks, articulated haul trucks, or comparable heavy equipment.
• Comfortable safely driving, maneuvering, and backing 20-ton vehicles.
• Ability to drive for extended periods.
• Strong understanding of equipment safety, inspections, and operational procedures.
• Ability to complete and pass a road test and background check.
• Ability to meet applicable DOT driver requirements, including drug testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, and physical qualification requirements.
• Clean driving record with no more than two minor moving violations within the past three years.
• No serious traffic violations involving a commercial or personal motor vehicle within the past five years.
• No DUI, DWI, OUI, or reckless-driving conviction involving alcohol or drugs within the past ten years.
• No preventable accidents involving a commercial or personal motor vehicle within the past three years.
• No preventable DOT-recordable commercial motor vehicle accidents within the past ten years.
• Ability to read, understand, interpret, and follow applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Professional attitude, reliability, teamwork, and strong safety awareness.

Preferred Qualifications

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL A).
• Rigid-frame haul truck experience.
• Articulated haul truck experience.
• Mining, quarry, construction, or industrial equipment experience.
• Experience with autonomous vehicles, driver-assistance systems, robotics, or advanced vehicle technology.
• Experience providing operational feedback to engineering, technical, or product teams.
• Willingness and ability to complete approximately one week of training in Sunol, CA before deployment to Arizona.
