Registered Nurse - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

What You Will Do:

• Deliver expert nursing care to adult patients with conditions such as AFIB/RVR, DKA, HTN, COPD, ARF, post-heart caths, stroke (CVA/TIA), spinal surgeries, and more.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including charge nurses, RT, hospitalists, and support staff.
• Manage patient care in a fast-paced setting with a patient-to-RN ratio of 1:3.
• Support unit operations, including phlebotomy, IV management, and compliance with EKG competency requirements.

Required Skills:

• Valid Registered Nurse license in state
• Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH certifications
• Ability to manage titratable medication gtts (e.g., Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, Levophed) with manager approval if not experienced
• Competency in EKG interpretation
• Strong communication and critical thinking skills
• Ability to pass a unit-specific EKG competency exam

Nice to Have Skills:

• Experience with chest tube management, tracheostomies, peritoneal dialysis, CSF drains, and ISTAT
• Prior experience in stroke or surgical units
• Flexible and adaptable with scheduling, including night shifts and rotations
• Ability to support various units such as Stroke and MedSurg with fluctuating patient ratios

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• At least 2 years of recent RN experience in a hospital setting, specifically in acute or telemetry care

Other Requirements:

• First-time travelers must have 2 years of permanent RN experience in acute care; separated for at least 1 year if previously a perm staff
• Must pass EKG competency exam prior to start
• Valid certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH
• Ability to work rotating weekend shifts, holidays, and every other weekends
• Flexible scheduling with a 4-day or 3-day workweek pattern, including mandatory night shifts
• Scrub color: Pewter; uniforms available at scrub shops
• Parking covered, in designated areas
