Educational AssistantSalary: $16.68/hour--$22.73/hour, based on applicable experience Hours: 7.50 hours/day, 9 months/yearApplicants should have a high school diploma, GED or associate's degree; experience working with students; good physical health; and mental and emotional stability. Applicants must be able to comply with the guidelines set forth in the No Child Left Behind Act, specifically an associate degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher education; or at least two (2) years of study in an accredited institution of higher education (defined as 48 semester hours or 75 quarter hours); or have passed the ParaPro test. This position requires an Aide Permit through the Ohio Department of Education with the ESEA Endorsement.Position: Educational Assistant Contract: Per Agreement Immediate Supervisor: Building PrincipalEssential Functions:Ensure the safety of students as directed by the principalSupervise and/or work with students both individually and in small groups as directed by the teacherAssist in preparing and/or duplicating classroom materialAct as liaison for the District, community, staff, students, and parents with tact and diplomacyAssist students with classwork and make-up workMaintain student and miscellaneous recordsAssist students in the development of life skills and appropriate social behaviorsMaintain confidentiality of information, including, but not limited to, student records and free/reduced lunch formsUtilize emergency procedure knowledge and notify the appropriate personTake all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilitiesRegularly communicate with parents and administratorsDistribute communiqus to be sent home with studentsAttend educational field tripsAssist with recess/lunch supervisionEscorting students throughout the buildingMaintain and improve professional competence by attending professional growth seminars, workshops, etc.Assist students with toiletry needs as necessaryAttend meetings and in-services as requiredAssist teacher with clerical duties, i.e., preparing papers, typingAdminister basic first aid to students as necessaryInteract positively with staff, students, parents, and community membersPerform other duties related to the education and supervision of handicapped students as assigned by the building administratorStay current with Board guidelines and policiesFollow the District safety and regulatory compliance policy, procedures, and guidelinesIs punctual and prepared for immediate assumption of duties upon arrival at schoolUtilize time appropriately and maintain good attendancePerform other duties as may be assigned by the supervising teacher or principalQualifications:Completed at least 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours as verified by college transcripts from an accredited institution of higher learning, associate's degree or higher, or passing score on State ParaPro AssessmentMust meet District hiring requirementsHigh school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)Attain and maintain appropriate State of Ohio certification/licenseSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may feel appropriateAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both verbally and in writingAbility to operate all applicable office equipmentAbility to work effectively with othersEffective communication skillsBasic computer/keyboarding skillsOrganizational and problem-solving skillsAbility to operate special needs equipmentCPR certificationAbility to be flexible and adaptable to changing situationsStudent management skillsEffective, active listening skillsDaily exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissueOccasional interaction among unruly childrenOccasional requirement to travelOccasional requirement to carry, lift, push, and pull items up to a maximum of 50 poundsMay be called upon to physically restrain students who are potentially dangerous to themselves or othersFrequent and regular requirements to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, climb, kneel, and stoopOccasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to come to school on all scheduled work days, except calamity days
