Start date: AUGUST 18Position SummaryTransport students to and from a variety of school sites and activitiesRequired Education, Experience & QualificationsHigh School education or equivalentA valid and appropriate Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with State of Ohio Certification to drive a school busTwo or more years experience as a bus driver preferredSatisfactory completion of BCII and FBI background checksJob Responsibilities & DutiesDrive a school bus safely in accordance all applicable Federal and Ohio State LawsFollow time schedulesOversee the loading and unloading of students, releasing students to authorized individualMay operate a special lift bus and loads and unloads students in wheelchairsProperly secure students, if required, in bus seats or wheelchair harnessingMaintain order and proper discipline of passengers; resolving disputes, documents and reports severe disciplinary casesConduct daily safety and operational inspection and paperwork of assigned vehicleMaintain a variety of records and reports including but not limited to mileage, routing, maintenance, and time schedules as requiredAttend meetings, programs, and in-service training as assignedMaintain current required licenses and certificatesPerforms other related duties as assignedRequired Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesKnowledge of effective child guidance practices and principlesAbility to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staffAbility to complete mandated training requirements required for licensing by the Ohio Department of EducationAbility to effectively communicate and relate to students in a positive and sensitive mannerAbility to maintain effectiveness in a stressful situationAbility to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform the assigned duties safely and effectivelyAbility to establish and maintain cooperative and effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required dutiesPersonal Conduct RequirementsThe employee shall exercise honesty and integrity in his/her relationships with the Board of Education and the administrationThe employee shall promote a positive image of the District through exemplary personal conductThe employee shall report misconduct or violations of policy or procedure following established Board policyThe employee shall actively support the efforts of the Board of Education and the Superintendent in the pursuit of District goals and interestsThe employee shall not disrupt District operations or undermine the positions of the Board of Education and administrationThe employee shall demonstrate the ability to interact in a positive manner with staff, students and the public and promote a positive image of the district through exemplary personal conduct including but not limited to:The ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, with tact, diplomacy and excellent grammarThe demonstration of effective listening skillsRemaining free of any alcohol or controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Beachwood City School DistrictPhysical DemandsAbility to hear and speak, read and write, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, use hands to operate a computer and other equipment, kneel, bend at the waist, reach overhead – above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies, ability to lift, carry, push and pull items up to a maximum of fifty (50) poundsThis job description is subject to change and in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the incumbent.
