The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in accomplishing trades and labor work of the 437th Maintenance Squadron.

Duties

Help

- Performs work planning responsibilities. Plans on a weekly or monthly basis the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials in an organizational segment or group.

- Performs work direction responsibilities. Assigns work to individuals and provides technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes.

- Performs administration responsibilities. Participates with employees in the development of performance plans.

- Provides a work environment that is free from all forms of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

- Ensures education in, compliance with, and practice of security directives, good safety, and health habits in all work areas.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance. May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
• This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
• Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
• Work is performed in hangar areas, outdoors, in parked aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Involves exposure to extremes in heat, cold, and other inclement weather.
• Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to dirt, grease, aircraft fluids, oil, hydraulic fluids, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases such as Hydrazine and Halon.
• Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast. May be exposed to electrical energy.
• Working around machinery with moving parts; working around moving objects or vehicles; working closely with others; working alone. Hours of repeated bending: 3 hours per week. Both hands required. Reaching above shoulder height. Use of fingers.
• This position requires a pre-employment physical examination. Functional requirements include: Heavy lifting (45-79 lbs.). Moderate carrying (15-44 lbs.). Hours of straight pulling: 1 hour per week. Hours of pushing: 1 hour per week.
• Hours of walking: 4 hours per week. Hours of standing: 10 hours per week. Hours of crawling: 1 hour per week. Hours of kneeling: 1 hour per week. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required.
• Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle may be required. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4.
• Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing (with aid).
• This is a supervisor position.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WS-8800 AIRCRAFT OVERHAUL GROUP . Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is the ability to supervise as an AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) supervised and personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment.
2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of hand and power tools, equipment, and precision measuring and /or test equipment common to trades supervised.
4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications.
5. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
