Housekeeping Worker

The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) is seeking a Housekeeping Worker. This is a classified 12 month position with state benefits, including health insurance, retirement, life insurance and disability coverage. The VSDB offers: supportive and positive team setting, low-cost medical, dental, and vision insurance, free life insurance, and a school-residential partnership that supports a 24/7 learning environment. A housekeeping worker at VSDB will provide educational and residential facilities with acceptable housekeeping in order to maintain sanitation standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Working knowledge and experience in performing residential space cleaning
• Ability to give and receive instruction in verbal and in written form
• Proficiency level of "Novice" in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Scale or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years
• Current CPR/First Aid certification or must obtain following school policy
• Ability to understand safety, sanitation and cleanliness needs
• Willingness to work alternate schedules

Additional Considerations:

• Working knowledge of the operation of manual and power cleaning equipment preferred
• Working knowledge of classroom and office space cleaning tasks preferred
• Working knowledge of commercial (non-industrial) cleaning tasks preferred
