The Bilingual Phlebotomist provides expert support in blood collection and specimen preparation, ensuring high-quality care for patients across a wide demographic. This role focuses on performing venipuncture and other specimen collections with minimal discomfort, while maintaining accurate documentation and strict adherence to laboratory protocols and safety regulations.

• Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
• Collect, label, and store blood and other specimens (such as urine or fecal samples) according to established procedures and test requirements.
• Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients in a way that helps put them at ease.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, and accurately label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders.
• Verify all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and follow all protocols necessary to maintain specimen integrity, including correct temperature and appropriate containers.
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures in accordance with laboratory standards.
• Update patient information and maintain accurate administrative records related to specimen collection and processing.
• Understand and fully interpret physicians’ orders to ensure correct tests and specimen handling.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and follow all applicable safety and infection control guidelines.
• Wear appropriate professional attire and required protective equipment while performing duties.
• Attend annual department trainings to stay current with procedures, regulations, and best practices.
• Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results or information to satisfy appropriate inquiries.

• 2–3 years of experience performing blood draws and venipuncture.
• Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques, including use of straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Demonstrated experience in labeling, centrifuging, storing, and processing specimens according to laboratory protocols.
• Ability to collect specimens from a wide range of patient populations, including pediatric patients.
• Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail for accurate documentation and data entry.
• Ability to clearly explain procedures to patients and provide courteous, professional patient interaction.
• Understanding of and compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations and laboratory safety standards.
• Bilingual communication skills to effectively interact with diverse patient populations (for the bilingual role).

• Experience with infant blood draws is a plus.
• Experience reading and communicating laboratory results over the phone.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical or laboratory setting.
• Strong organizational skills to manage specimen flow and documentation.
• Comfort working with pediatric patients and adapting communication style to different age groups.

This role is based in a clinical and laboratory setting that involves regular in-state travel and offers variety in daily work locations, making it ideal for candidates who enjoy a change of scenery. There are two schedule options: a full-time schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with rotating Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and a weekend-only schedule on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The environment requires adherence to laboratory safety standards, including the use of appropriate professional attire and protective equipment. The role does not require working on holidays or taking vacation coverage shifts, and work involves direct patient interaction, specimen handling, and use of standard laboratory equipment such as centrifuges and specimen storage systems.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newburgh, NY.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
