Requirements (duties include, but are not limited to) The Pediatrician shall provide inpatient and outpatient Pediatrician services to authorized beneficiaries. The Pediatrician shall be the primary care manager (PCM) for a designated group of patients during the term of the contract. The Pediatrician shall be required to treat patients from other provider panels. The Pediatrician shall have inpatient admitting responsibilities and perform inpatient rounds. The Pediatrician shall perform chart reviews and attend medical staff meetings as part of the normal workday. The Pediatrician shall provide initial emergency medical care required to any civilian, military, or military beneficiary requiring it in life-threatening situations. Patients shall be transferred to the appropriate military or civilian hospital when the attending physician determines that the patient is stable enough to make the trip. The Pediatrician shall interview patients, diagnose illnesses, prescribe treatments and medicine, perform minor surgery and refer patients to military or civilian hospitals for more complex medical problems. The Pediatrician shall provide comprehensive and continuing health and medical services. The Pediatrician shall write prescriptions only for medications within the scope of work of the Pediatrician. Medications beyond the scope of work of the Pediatrician require interaction with physicians from other clinics. The Pediatrician shall complete medical records, forms and documents. The Pediatrician shall take the patient history and perform medical surveillance physicals on appointed military and Department of Army Civilians. The Pediatrician shall request lab tests, x-rays, pharmaceuticals, etc. via the CHCS computer system. The Pediatrician shall request consultations and procedures as considered appropriate. The Pediatrician shall study health records and evaluate the significance of total clinical evidence. The Pediatrician shall make periodic follow-up examinations of patients to determine progress and reaction to treatment, review clinical evidence to detect deviation from normal disease course, and determine the patient's progress. When deemed appropriate, the Pediatrician shall consult with other physicians concerning the significance of symptoms and interpretations, prepare clinical reports of each examination, consultation and diagnosis, and record other pertinent data in the appropriate format. The Pediatrician shall maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including daily man-hours. Shall be capable of performing the full range of Pediatric services including diagnosis and treatment of urgent/acute diseases/injuries to include but not limited to: Skin, Head, Eyes, Ears, Nose, Throat, Neck, Cardiovascular System, Pulmonary system, Gastrointestinal system, Musculoskeletal system, Genitourinary system, Reproductive system, Lymphopoietic system, Central nervous system, Endocrine system. The Pediatrician shall use accepted medical practices and standards. Independently evaluate, diagnose, and provide medical treatment to a broad-age range of patients enrolled in the Pediatric Clinic. Determines the need for tests and provides emergency care to accident victims. Shall conduct examinations of children and adults to determine the need for x-rays and lab tests and interpret findings and test results. The HCP shall prescribe and administer treatments for colds, infectious diseases, and other diseases. The HCP shall provide all medical care on difficult or complex problems e.g. cardiac conditions and cystic fibrosis. The HCP shall be required to perform physicals and sexual abuse exams; and determine the need to hospitalize patients or to refer patients to a specialty clinic, consultant or other hospital. The HCP shall monitor patient progress during local hospital treatment and upon the patient's return from other hospitals. When appropriate, the HCP shall care for patients via telephone consultation. The Pediatrician shall serve as the attending physician in the inpatient unit when on call or as needed; prescribe and/or provide treatment to patients, and determine when they may be released from EACH. The Pediatrician shall provide medical care for patients on the ward or ICU as needed. The Pediatrician shall be capable to diagnosis and management (D&M); and performing the procedures as a minimum: Venipuncture, Lumbar Puncture, Urethral catheterization, Incision and drainage of abscess, Circumcision, Subdural taps on infants with open fontanelle, Pleuracentesis, Peritoneal tap, Saphenous or antecubital vein cutdowns, Arterial puncture, Intubations (oro-tracheal, naso-tracheal), Suprapubic puncture & insertion of chest tube, Exchange Transfusion (partial), Pre-oral biopsy, Skin biopsy, Umbilical artery catheterization, Umbilical vein catheterization, Conscious sedation, Cardioversion, and Pericardiocentesis. Qualifications Must have graduated from an accredited Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) program to include a Pediatric residency program. Must be Board Certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) or American Osteopathic Board of Pediatricians (AOBP). The Pediatrician may be a new graduate of an Pediatric Residency Program and will at a minimum be Board Eligible. Must have a minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience as a practicing Pediatrician in the last two (2) years. Residency/Internship time counts as practicing experience. Time spent in an administrative capacity as a claims reviewer, medical school instructor, consultant, internet or telemedicine physician, medical director, etc. does not qualify as practicing time. Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in one of the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or U.S. Virgin Islands. Possess and maintain at all times a current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number and BNDD number as required by state agencies where the provider is licensed. Possess and maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
