Policy Analyst for Specialized PopulationsThe New York City Mayor's Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services is responsible for ensuring that agencies that oversee the City's social services are run compassionately, equitably, and effectively, and that the City's public health and healthcare delivery systems deliver results for all New Yorkers.Reporting to a team of Advisors on the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services' team, the Policy Analyst will provide project management, analytical, research, and administrative support for the team. This role will liaise with Advisors on the team and complete special projects. This position will require project management support related to policy initiatives, as well as administrative work, including scheduling for team members and general organizational work. Tasks may include interacting with Advisors and staff from agencies in the Health and Human Services' portfolio to track relevant implementation plans and program needs; reviewing relevant data, studies, and reports produced by subject-matter experts and summarizing for an executive-level audience; producing background and position memos and fact sheets to support executive decision-making; and drafting talking points and public-facing materials. This position will focus on supporting programs and initiatives in the portfolio around older adults, youth and young adults, people with disabilities, and other specialized populations.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Central administrative support: provide administrative support and coordination; preparation of correspondence and briefing memorandum; and meeting planning and assistance.Project management: assist staff members with coordinating high-priority interagency workstreams across the portfolio, such as improving healthcare delivery and access, addressing homelessness, and more. Responsibilities may include liaising with other agencies to track updates on progress, taking and distributing meeting notes, and other tasks as needed.Agency management: support team members who serve as liaisons between the agencies and the Office of the Deputy Mayor to monitor projects; and review policy proposals, budgets, and public reporting.Policy research and analysis: Provide qualitative and quantitative research on local, state, and federal policies within the portfolio.Public communication and meeting materials: Prepare materials for the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services in an organized manner, including drafting memos, remarks, and correspondence.The ideal candidate is eager to work in local government and learn more about how New York City operates. You should thrive in a fast-paced environment and have some understanding of or experience in NYC politics. You have strong written and verbal communication skills. You are highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize between conflicting demands and the flexibility to meet unpredictable demands. You can work independently and within a fast-paced environment, as well as thrive in a collaborative and supportive team environment. You are a self-starter who positively contributes to a learning culture and collaborative team and is willing to perform the full range of tasks required in a dynamic and rapidly responsive organization. You can quickly absorb complex technical documents and brief senior staff. You have excellent time management skills. You have research and/or analytical experience, a plus. You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). You can prioritize workload and function effectively within and outside the office. You are proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint. You have an interest in public health, mental health, and social services.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree required.2+ years of experience.Public Service Loan Forgiveness: As a prospective employee of the City of New York, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs.
