The Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach must lead young women on and off the court with unwavering integrity, a focus on academic success, hard work, commitment and discipline. The Oak Park School District is looking for a Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach who is intrinsically motivated; who has a deep desire to grow professionally; who believes children deserve to learn in an environment with the highest level of cultural competence; who is committed to providing students with boundless opportunities; and who understands that initiative, rigor and grit are essential for coaching high school athletes in the 21st century and promoting excellent community relationships.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Demonstrated knowledge of the game of basketball and MHSSA rules
• CPR/AED Certification
• Concussion Training
• Completed Coaches Advanced Program (CAP) Level I & II

Preferred Experience

• 3-5 Years of coaching high school basketball.
• Supervisory and sports management experience.
• Experience with a diverse student and parent population.
• Strong organizational skills, flexibility, and exceptional at prioritizing the completion of work.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of MHSAA guidelines and procedures.

General Duties and Responsibilities

• Must be available to perform coaching responsibilities, games and practices in addition to your contractual work schedule (work schedule will not be modified to accommodate coaching schedule).
• Assist the Athletic Director for all matters relating to the organization, administration and philosophy of the sport under his/her direction.
• Lead the Varsity girls basketball program.
• Serves in a leadership capacity to the community program.
• Assist each student in achieving a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.
• Adheres to the Coaches MHSAA Guidebook and TCAP Handbook
• Acts as a positive role model on and off the court at all times.
• Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
• Maintains competency in rules, event procedures, coaching techniques and general information about all aspects of the sport.
• Works cooperatively with all coaches, Athletic Director and students to ensure a healthy, positive sports activities.
• Works closely with the Athletic Director and other coaches to schedule facility use.
• Secures the Athletic Director approval before scheduling non-school facilities for off-campus activities.
• Works with the coaches and/or Athletic Director to plan transportation and appropriate supervision at away contests in compliance with district travel policy and guidelines.
• Maintains an accurate and current team & program roster and submits copies to the Athletic Office.
• Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season.
• Arranges for the presentation of team awards through the Athletic Office.
• Records, submits and maintains necessary MHSAA & TCAPS forms and paperwork.
• Enforces all rules of the MHSAA related to his/her sport.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
• Ensures a safe and healthy team culture that is absent of any bullying/hazing in the sport.
• Establishes performance criteria for participation in interscholastic competition in the sport.
• Confirms with Athletic Office that all individual athlete's meet the eligibility requirements.
• Cooperates with the Athletic Director to verify that no participant is issued equipment or allowed to practice until their physical examination card has been completed and their insurance coverage is in effect.
• Oversees the safety condition of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
• Enforces rules and regulations concerning conditioning of players and their health and safety.
• Reports injuries to the athletic trainer through personal communication, as well as completing and submitting incident reports to the athletic trainer and Athletic Office.
