Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Intuitive Surgical seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead AI algorithm development for computer vision, deep learning, and robotics applied to next-generation surgical platforms. The role involves designing and implementing vision and multimodal models, advancing state-of-the-art techniques, and collaborating with clinical teams in Sunnyvale.

Responsibilities

• Lead research, design, and implementation of AI algorithms for computer vision and multimodal data systems
• Develop and integrate vision-action and vision-language-action models into surgical AI and robotics pipelines
• Create validation methods, datasets, and evaluation metrics for clinical dataset scalability
• Drive prototypes from concept through product integration and collaborate with clinical advisors for iterative improvements
• Support academic collaborations and advance state-of-the-art through patents and publications

Requirements

• Master's degree with 6+ years industry experience in computer vision and machine learning, or PhD with 3+ years experience
• Strong publication record in CVPR, ICCV, MICCAL, or equivalent conferences
• Proficiency in Python, C/C++, and shell scripting with hands-on deep learning framework experience
• Demonstrated expertise with GPU-accelerated algorithms and state-of-the-art AI models
• Solid understanding of control systems, robotics, kinematics, and dynamics
• Strong engineering practices, debugging/profiling skills, and multi-threaded programming experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication with ability to work collaboratively in results-oriented environments
