HVAC Service Technician II

Position SummaryCEC Companies has an immediate opening for an experienced HVAC Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for PMs, troubleshooting, and diagnosing HVAC equipment. You will also be performing repairs and maintenance on a variety of equipment including DX equipment (water and air cooled), electric motors, variable frequency drives, VAV systems, and mission critical equipment to consist of Liebert, Stulz, and Data Aire.This fast-paced position requires excellent verbal communication, multi-tasking, organizational and time management skills. This is a safety sensitive position.#IND123HPEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesUnderstands basic refrigeration cycle to include identifying components in refrigeration circuit, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the refrigeration circuit, using manifold gauge set, pressure/temperature chart and temperature measuring devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot. Understands refrigeration recovery, evacuation, and charging.Understands basic electron theory, how electricity travels, AC and DC currents, single phase and three phase circuits, and series and parallel circuits. Ability to read basic wiring diagrams. Understanding of Ohms Law. Ability to use multi-meters to read voltage, current and resistance values. Must be able to troubleshoot basic electrical circuits.Understands the process of treating air to simultaneously control its temperature, humidity, and distribution. Must be able to read and understand mechanical drawings.Understands basic heating cycle to include identifying components in heating system, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the heating system using a gas pressure test and other devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot. Understands the theory of combustion and how it relates to combustible fuels such as gas and oil.Helps in securing, relocating, and organizing materials, small tools, and equipment from and back to appropriate storage areas.Keeps work area clean by collecting and disposing of scrap, excess materials, and refuse.Keeps materials and tools clean and organized in an orderly fashion.Must be able to install, troubleshoot and repair the following equipment:Refrigerant controls (metering devices)Hermetic compressorsHeat Pumps to 5-tonSplit systems to 5-tonPackaged units to 5-tonDuctless splitsElectric Motors (3-phase and 1-phase)Electric motor controls (contractors, starters, relays, disconnect, thermostats, etc.)Light commercial furnaces, boilers, burners, and related controls (oil and gas)Various types of water pumpsIntake and exhaust fansUnit heaters (hot water, steam and electric)EconomizersDetermine client needs in a professional and effective manner.Represents CEC Companies to the client by a clean and neat appearance on the job.Communicates with Service Manager on a frequent basis regarding scheduling and work in progress.Participates in meetings and trainings as assigned.Prepares written materials to document activities and log information as required by the job site or Company procedures.Provides assistance during emergencies to resolve immediate safety concerns, operating safetyDX systems, small to large tonnageChilled water systems and cooling tower, pumps, VEDsBasic troubleshooting of controls systemsAbility to read wiring schematics and diagramsKnowledge of refrigeration cycle and correct charging methods; super heat and sub cooling.Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.#IND123HPEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma, GED or equivalent.Minimum of 3 years of experienceAny similar combination of education and experience.Required Skill, Knowledge, and AbilitiesDemonstrates basic understanding of English (ability to read, speak and write) while performing work-related tasks.Soldering, Brazing, Basic heat load calculations, and basic heat loss calculationsPractices and comprehends safe work procedures per Company policy.Meets deadlines and schedules with minimal errors.Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record and drivers license.Must have excellent written communications skillsMust possess excellent time management skillsMust have excellent oral communications skillsMust have the ability to juggle multiple tasksMust be able to deal with difficult peopleMust have excellent organizational skillsMust be able to work well with other technicians and tradesmanWork EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Possess good hearing, normal or corrected.Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) at all times.Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. This position requires flexible work hours.
