Roadway Design Engineer

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a skilled Roadway Design Engineer to join our team. The Roadway Design Engineer will be responsible for leading and supporting the design of roadway improvement projects from concept through construction documents. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation in highway design, hands‑on experience with OpenRoads Designer (ORD), and a working knowledge of North Carolina standards and processes. Responsibilities include: Develop roadway design plans, profiles, cross-sections, and construction documents for transportation and multi-modal projects Perform horizontal and vertical alignment design, superelevation, and grading using OpenRoads Designer (ORD) Coordinate with utility, drainage, and structural disciplines throughout project development Prepare and review design calculations, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates Ensure compliance with state and/or municipal design standards, policies, and project-specific requirements Collaborate with project managers, clients, and agency stakeholders on project deliverables and schedules Assist in preparation of permits, right‑of‑way documents, and technical specifications Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering Minimum 5 years of experience in roadway/transportation design Proficiency in OpenRoads Designer (ORD) is required Experience with NCDOT projects and design standards Familiarity with AASHTO design guidelines and roadway geometric design principles Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license, or active pursuit of licensure Experience working directly on state-funded and municipal transportation projects Knowledge of drainage design and utility coordination as it relates to roadway projects Familiarity with MicroStation and other Bentley design tools Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience Full suite of benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match, PTO) Flexible work environment (hybrid options available) Direct collaboration with firm principals and decision-makers Opportunities for professional development, licensure support, and advancement Meaningful, long-term career path in a values-driven firm If you’re ready to contribute your professional experience and be part of an innovative team, we’d love to hear from you! #J-18808-Ljbffr VIAS Infrastructure
