Description:
CANDIDATES MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK 2 OF THE 3 MAJOR HOLIDAYS.

The unit has 32 beds, licensed for 40, set up in pods of 8.

Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.

The nurse-to-patient ratio is 2:1.

Electronic medical records are managed using Cerner.

There is a Charge Nurse present who has no patient assignment.

A Resource RN may take a patient assignment.

Available Nurse Aides typically work on days only.

Weekend requirements include working every other weekend.

Holiday shifts will rotate with core staff members.

Scrub color for RNs is Navy Blue and for Nurse Aides is Hunter Green.

There are no monitor techs; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own strips.

The unit manages various drips such as pressors, antiarrhythmics, and sedation.

Ventilator management is part of the required skills.

A Clientist or Intensivist is available in-house.

Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7.

Pharmacy services are available 24/7.

Shifts are 12-hour shifts, beginning at 0630 and 1830.

Floating may occur to telemetry and any emergency department ICU/telemetry holds.

The floor-specific orientation includes 8 hours with an ICU educator and 4 hours with a preceptor on day 1, and 12 hours with a preceptor on day 2.

Common diagnoses and types of patients include higher-level neuro, cardiac, PCI, sepsis, alcohol withdrawal, stroke, ventriculostomies, traumatic brain injury, and Camino ICP monitoring.

Additional notes include a preference for candidates with 3 years of experience.

Huddle reports and bedside reports are part of unit communication.

Acrylic nails or gel polish are not allowed during the assignment.

The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment and up to 3 shifts for assignments shorter than 13 weeks.
