Classification Summary: Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform the advanced, skilled, mechanical work necessary to ensure reliable service and maintenance on the Cooperative's automotive, line construction and maintenance, and right-of-way equipment. Primary responsibilities include performing required mechanical work on an advanced level to keep equipment in good condition to ensure dependable service to our members. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Senior Mechanic who reviews the work through periodic inspection of work assignments. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. Substitution: Two (2) years of additional experience may substitute for the required certificate.
This position requires a valid Florida Class A commercial driver's license. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to read and comprehend instructions. Ability to write or give out clear instructions to other employees at Apprentice level.
Ability to diagnose, tune and repair vehicles and equipment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other technology software/tools used in fleet management. Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the servicing of vehicles and equipment. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of vehicle maintenance and repair. Skill in using diagnostic equipment. Ability to analyze data received from diagnostic equipment. Ability to complete accurate work orders and parts requests. - Repairs and Maintains Equipment. Repairs and maintains Cooperative vehicles and equipment and auxiliary mounted equipment including hydraulic aerial lifts, derricks and other equipment, chippers, saws, mowers, trenchers, hoists, trailers, portable generators, and any other equipment. Repairs bodies, paints vehicles, and builds special bodies or racks.
- Electronic Equipment. Is familiar with and able to diagnose and repair vehicle on-board computers and other electronic performance equipment.
- Tools and Equipment. Is responsible for all tools, equipment and supplies used in the performance of electrical and mechanical work. Is familiar with the proper and safe methods for using welders, cutting tools, lathe, grinders, drills, multimeter, computer diagnostic tools, hoists, hand tools and other tools used in the performance of the job. Is familiar and able to safely use wheel alignment and balancing equipment.
- Tools Required. Possesses the basic tools for general vehicle repair and other specialized tools needed for heavy truck and hydraulic repairs.
- Safety. Practices safe work habits in the performance of all job duties and be familiar with and strictly adhere to those portions of the Cooperative Safety Manual that pertain to their job and work area.
- O ther Essential Duties. Each employee is responsible to perform other duties as required to benefit the Cooperative and its members, includes responding to and/or assisting in emergency situations.
- Keeps accurate record on shop tickets of parts used and labor on individual jobs.
