Job Description Job Responsibilities: Supervises and coordinates the activities of the Quality Department to ensure all finished products meet customer specifications, appearance standards, regulatory requirements, and established quality objectives. Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Quality Management System, IATF 16949 requirements, and customer-specific requirements. Job Duties:
Quality Leadership:
• Lead and develop the Quality Department, including Quality Engineers
• Provide coaching, training, performance feedback, and employee development.
• Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Sales, Purchasing, and Customer Service teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
• Serve as the primary quality representative during customer visits, audits and quality reviews. Quality Management System:
• Partner with the Quality Systems Facilitator to maintain compliance with IATF 16949 and customer-specific requirements.
• Ensure quality procedures, work instructions, and records are maintained and effectively implemented.
• Coordinate internal audits, layered process audits, and corrective action activities.
• Support third-party and customer audits. Customer Quality Management:
• Serve as the primary contact and escalation point for customer quality concerns.
• Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8-D, 5-Why, Fishbone Analysis and PFMEA.
• Monitor customer scorecards and drive actions to improve performance and customer satisfaction. Process and Product Quality:
• Oversee inspection and verification activities for incoming materials, in-process production, and finished goods.
• Monitor quality performance indicators including scrap, rework, customer complaints, audit findings, and cost of poor quality.
• Ensure inspection plans, control plans, and quality documentation are maintained and followed.
Continuous Improvement:
• Identify and implement opportunities to reduce defects, scrap, and customer quality issues.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and support problem-solving activities across the organization.
• Support new product launches, process changes, and APQP activities.
Supplier Quality:
• Partner with Purchasing and Operation to address supplier quality concerns.
• Support supplier corrective actions and performance improvement activities.
• Monitor supplier quality performance and perform supplier audits as needed. Regulatory and Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with applicable customer requirements and industry standards.
• Partner with the Laboratory Manager to maintain calibration systems and measurement system compliance. Skills and Qualifications:
• Quality experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive or metal
finishing/coating.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
• Experience with IATF 16949 or ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements.
• Experience working with OEM and Tier 1 customer requirements preferred.
• Working knowledge of quality core tools including APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and Control Plans.
• Proficiency with root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methods.
• Knowledge of metal coatings, painting, e-coat, powder coating, or related finishing services preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
