Law Enforcement Investigator II – Florida Department of Financial Services Job Type: Full-Time | Career Service Location: Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, Lake Wales, Orlando, Tampa, and West Palm Beach. Salary Range: $54,075 – $58,000 annually (+ $4,999.80 CAD for Broward, Palm Beach & Miami-Dade) About the Florida Department of Financial Services (DFS) The Florida Department of Financial Services (DFS) is responsible for protecting Florida’s citizens and businesses through the enforcement of financial, insurance, and fraud-related laws . The Division of Criminal Investigations (CID) operates within DFS, conducting investigations into insurance fraud, workers’ compensation fraud, financial crimes, and arson-related offenses . The Bureau of Fire, Arson & Explosives Investigations plays a critical role in fire-related criminal investigations, arson cases, and explosives analysis , working closely with local, state, and federal agencies. DFS law enforcement personnel are highly trained investigators dedicated to safeguarding Florida’s communities . As a Law Enforcement Investigator II , you will be a sworn officer conducting complex investigations, gathering intelligence, processing crime scenes, and building cases for prosecution . Job Summary The Florida Department of Financial Services is seeking experienced law enforcement professionals for the role of Law Enforcement Investigator II within the Bureau of Fire, Arson & Explosives Investigations . This position involves conducting in-depth criminal investigations, surveillance operations, evidence collection, and suspect apprehension . Investigators work on cases related to arson, insurance fraud, financial crimes, and the misuse of state funds , enforcing Florida laws while collaborating with state and federal law enforcement partners . This is a sworn law enforcement position , and the investigator is subject to 24/7 callouts for emergency incidents. Primary Responsibilities Investigations & Enforcement: Conduct complex investigations related to arson, insurance fraud, financial crimes, and workers’ compensation fraud . Execute search warrants, arrest warrants, and investigative subpoenas . Gather intelligence and conduct undercover and surveillance operations . Prepare detailed investigative reports and present evidence for prosecution. Crime Scene Management & Evidence Collection: Secure and process crime scenes involving arson and financial crimes . Collect and preserve physical and forensic evidence for use in legal proceedings. Work with forensic labs to analyze fire and explosives samples . Community & Agency Collaboration: Work alongside local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to coordinate investigations. Develop confidential informants and intelligence sources . Provide expert testimony in criminal and civil court cases . Specialized Response & Emergency Operations: Respond to fire and arson incidents as a lead investigator . Participate in state and federal task forces combating fraud and financial crimes. Assist in disaster fraud investigations following hurricanes or other emergencies. Minimum Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) . A college degree is preferred and may substitute for some experience requirements. Law Enforcement Certification: Must be a Certified Florida Law Enforcement Officer under Florida Statute 943 . Active Florida Law Enforcement Compliance/Certification of Equivalency of Training from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) . Correctional Officer and Correction Probation Officer Certifications DO NOT meet requirements. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of sworn law enforcement experience . Candidates with less than three (3) years may be considered for Law Enforcement Investigator I . College education may substitute for up to one year of required experience. Licensing & Background: Valid Florida Driver’s License . No felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanors (per FDLE hiring standards). No dishonorable discharges from the U.S. Armed Forces .
