Respiratory Therapist, Certified

Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa, Iowa, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Therapist, Certified to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide high-quality respiratory care to patients across the lifespan in acute, emergency, and specialty care settings. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, you will perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, develop and implement therapy plans, and monitor patient responses to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
As a Certified Respiratory Therapist, you will administer and manage oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and airway clearance treatments, as well as set up, monitor, and adjust mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilation equipment such as BiPAP and CPAP in accordance with established protocols. You will obtain and analyze arterial blood gases, interpret results, and communicate findings to the clinical team to support timely clinical decisions. You may perform pulmonary function tests and other diagnostic procedures, ensuring accurate data collection and clear documentation in the electronic medical record.
You will be an integral member of the hospital’s emergency response efforts, participating in rapid response and code situations, assisting with airway management, and providing life-supporting respiratory interventions. Attention to infection prevention, equipment cleaning and maintenance, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards are essential components of this position. The role also includes educating patients and families on respiratory conditions, proper use of inhalers and equipment, and strategies to promote lung health and prevent readmissions.
