About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Acute Duration: 22 weeks Shift: Part Time Day or Night shifts as needed Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in the Emergency Department License: Active Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI only) Must-Have: Two years of ED acute hospital experience as a registered professional nurse Description: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaboratively provides direct care. The RN applies appropriate interventions and evaluates patient progress. The ED RN demonstrates skill in various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations. The RN utilizes principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain, discomfort, and safety. He/She assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups and their families. The RN connects with patients and families during triage to identify initial management and assigns priority of care according to established standards. He/She establishes rapport with patients and families, addresses comfort needs, listens carefully, assesses nonverbal communication, and provides updates. The RN conducts primary assessments of critical needs, detects, and documents any major deviations from norms within acceptable time frames. He/She correctly identifies necessary steps and interventions required using direct observation, interviews, reports, and data. The RN identifies contributing factors, health history, and activities preceding emergent health events. He/She assesses psychosocial needs and documents any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse as appropriate. The RN reassesses the patient to identify responses to treatment and changes in condition, responding appropriately. He/She encourages and builds mutual trust among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. The RN teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with individual education and training. He/She understands the responsibility to safeguard public safety and complies with infection prevention strategies. The RN prepares patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments and makes appropriate referrals for post-emergency care. He/She teaches patients what is needed for continued care at home, structuring sessions to maximize understanding based on learning styles. The RN assesses and evaluates retention of key points during education and discharge instructions. He/She seeks to understand what is most important to patients and families, acknowledging their central focus in all care and services. The RN embraces the importance of creating a healing environment as a key element of professional nursing practice. He/She keeps patients and significant others informed of the care process and anticipates their needs. The RN maintains awareness of the patient's condition throughout the emergency visit and updates communication boards accordingly.
