Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Technical Product Owner to support the Payments team responsible for digital order payment flows, including tender selection, authorization, capture, and settlement. The role will own backlog management, feature definition, acceptance criteria, and delivery decisions for payment-related backend services and integrations.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical product ownership experience, the ability to collaborate directly with engineers and architects, and a proven track record of managing production services in an Agile/SAFe environment. This is a delivery-focused contract role that will also maintain the payment roadmap in alignment with product leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate business and compliance requirements into well-defined features, user stories, and testable acceptance criteria.
• Own backlog prioritization, refinement, readiness, and transparency for assigned payment services.
• Make timely scope and priority decisions to maintain delivery momentum.
• Develop an understanding of payment flows, including tender selection, authorization, capture, card tokenization, split/partial capture, and government benefit payments such as SNAP and WIC.
• Collaborate with engineers and architects on technical discovery, dependencies, integrations, and solution trade-offs.
• Identify ambiguous requirements, delivery risks, and dependency gaps early.
• Validate delivered functionality against acceptance criteria and business outcomes.
• Coordinate functional and integration testing across different payment and tender types.
• Support release readiness, monitoring and rollback planning, go-live communications, and production incident triage.
• Participate in SAFe Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
• Maintain the payment roadmap in alignment with product leadership and business priorities.

Required Skills Must-Haves

1. Technical Product Ownership: Proven experience as a Technical Product Owner or Product Owner on an Agile/SAFe software delivery team.
2. Backlog & Acceptance Criteria: Strong experience owning and prioritizing backlogs, breaking down features into user stories, and defining clear, testable acceptance criteria.
3. Technical Understanding: Ability to discuss APIs, data flows, backend services, and system integrations with engineering teams.
4. Production Service Ownership: Experience managing a backlog for services with active production usage, including enhancements and issue resolution.
5. Communication & Stakeholder Management: Ability to translate between engineering, business, and compliance stakeholders and make effective delivery decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in software engineering, solution architecture, or payment systems.
• Experience in payments, order management, e-commerce checkout, or financial transaction systems.
• Familiarity with payment authorization, capture, settlement, card tokenization, and split-payment flows.
• Exposure to PCI compliance and payment security considerations.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and workflow orchestration tools such as Kafka, Temporal, or GCP.
• Knowledge of retail and e-commerce order flows, including pickup, delivery, marketplace fulfillment, third-party fulfillment, and subscriptions.
• Experience supporting government benefit payment methods, including SNAP and WIC.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Hands-on technical product ownership experience with direct engineering collaboration.
• Strong backlog ownership and acceptance-criteria definition skills.
• Comfortable making scope, priority, and delivery trade-off decisions.
• Experience supporting production applications and releases.
• Not limited to business analysis, project coordination, or status reporting.
