Job Title: Quality Inspector Job Description
The Quality Inspector performs visual and dimensional inspections on aerospace engine components throughout the receiving, in-process, and final stages of manufacturing and repair. This role verifies the work scope of parts for the quoting team, reviews inspection results from multiple processes, and determines the repairs required. The Quality Inspector uses precision measurement tools and inspection systems to ensure parts meet organizational quality standards and customer requirements.
Responsibilities- Perform visual and dimensional inspections on incoming parts during receiving inspection to confirm condition and work scope.
- Verify the work scope of parts for the quoting team by reviewing part condition and applicable inspection results.
- Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT), dimensional, and visual inspections on parts as they move through the manufacturing and repair process.
- Perform in-process inspections, including dimensional testing after machining runs, to ensure parts meet specified tolerances.
- Carry out final inspections, including NDT and dimensional checks, before parts are released and shipped.
- Review and interpret Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) reports to confirm dimensional accuracy and identify discrepancies.
- Identify scratches, scuffs, and other defects through detailed visual inspection and determine their impact on part acceptability.
- Use calipers, micrometers, and other precision measurement tools to perform accurate dimensional inspections.
- Enter all testing and inspection results into the Solumina system in a timely and accurate manner.
- Determine appropriate repair actions based on inspection findings and established quality standards.
- Support receiving inspections, in-process inspections, and final inspections across multiple parts and product lines.
- Work on a variety of parts moving through the manufacturing process, including multiple part numbers and sizes across different buildings.
- Collaborate with the team lead and other inspectors to manage daily workload and ensure all required final inspections are completed to meet shipping schedules.
- Participate in training on day shift to learn organizational quality processes, standards, and products, progressing toward full sign-off capability within approximately 18 months.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work area on the shop floor while performing inspections at designated workstations.
- Follow established quality procedures, documentation requirements, and organizational standards for aerospace engine manufacturing and repair.
- At least 1 year of dimensional inspection experience using calipers and micrometers.
- Hands-on manufacturing experience in a production or repair environment.
- Ability to perform detailed visual inspections to identify scratches, scuffs, and other surface defects.
- Proficiency in using precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers for dimensional checks.
- Capability to review and interpret CMM reports and other inspection documentation.
- Ability to accurately enter inspection and testing results into the Solumina quality system.
- Willingness and ability to learn and apply organizational quality standards, processes, and practices.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, compliant work.
- Effective time management skills to handle receiving, in-process, and final inspections within required timelines.
- Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) processes in a manufacturing or repair setting.
- Familiarity with aerospace engine components and related manufacturing processes.
- Comfort working on multiple part numbers and sizes, adapting to different product lines and building environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small inspection team and coordinate workload with a lead inspector.
- Readiness to complete a structured training period on day shift to achieve full sign-off responsibilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills to determine appropriate repairs based on inspection findings.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and navigation within quality and manufacturing systems.
Employees work in a climate-controlled environment with well-defined processes, tools, and systems that support high-quality work. The organization offers strong internal development opportunities, including structured training on quality standards, processes, and products, enabling inspectors to progress to full sign-off responsibilities within approximately 18 months. Team members benefit from clear shift options, voluntary overtime, and a supportive, small-team setting that values precision, continuous learning, and professional growth.
Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a climate-controlled manufacturing and repair facility with inspections performed on the shop floor at designated desks, where parts are staged on carts and inspection data is entered directly into a PC. There is one opening on first shift (6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), two openings on second shift (MondayFriday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.), and one opening on weekend shift (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.), where employees work 36 hours and are paid for 40. Overtime is voluntary and has not historically been mandatory. New hires train on day shift for roughly six months to learn quality processes, standards, and products (6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., MondayFriday). The inspection team consists of approximately seven people, with one additional inspector on nights and a lead who distributes workload daily. Work spans multiple buildings with similar processes but different part profiles: one building focuses on smaller, faster-paced parts with more part numbers; another handles the largest, more intricate parts at a slower pace; and a third focuses on military parts. Inspectors perform receiving, in-process, and final inspections on all parts moving through the facility, ensuring that final inspections are completed in time to meet shipping requirements.
