Position: SAP S/4HANA Technical Development Lead (Developer) Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced SAP S/4HANA Technical Development Lead to lead hands-on SAP development activities for a large-scale S/4HANA implementation and transformation program. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in ABAP, ABAP OO, S/4HANA development, CDS Views, OData, RAP, Fiori/UI5, APIs, enhancements, interfaces, and SAP BTP .

This is a hands-on technical leadership position responsible for development standards, technical design, code quality, custom development, integrations, performance optimization, and delivery oversight. The Development Lead will work closely with SAP functional teams, architects, integration teams, Basis, security, data teams, business stakeholders, and implementation partners to deliver scalable and maintainable SAP solutions aligned with S/4HANA clean-core principles .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and perform hands-on SAP S/4HANA technical development across implementation, migration, enhancement, and transformation initiatives.
• Design, develop, review, test, and optimize solutions using ABAP, ABAP Objects, CDS Views, AMDP, OData services, RAP, and other S/4HANA development technologies .
• Lead technical design and development of custom applications, enhancements, reports, interfaces, conversions, forms, and workflows.
• Develop and support SAP Fiori/UI5 applications , OData services, Gateway components, and backend integrations.
• Establish SAP development standards, coding guidelines, reusable development patterns, and code-review processes.
• Conduct technical and code reviews to ensure development quality, security, maintainability, and performance.
• Apply SAP clean-core principles by evaluating customizations and identifying appropriate extension approaches.
• Design and develop extensions using SAP BTP and S/4HANA extensibility capabilities where appropriate.
• Develop and support integrations using APIs, OData, IDocs, RFCs, BAPIs, web services, and SAP Integration Suite/CPI .
• Work with functional teams across SAP modules to translate functional specifications and business requirements into technical designs and solutions.
• Develop and optimize CDS Views, custom reports, analytical applications, and data-access components within S/4HANA.
• Support legacy SAP ECC custom-code assessment, remediation, optimization, and conversion for S/4HANA.
• Analyze custom objects for S/4HANA compatibility and recommend remediation, retirement, replacement, or redesign.
• Troubleshoot complex ABAP, Fiori, integration, workflow, data, and performance issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Perform SQL and HANA-oriented performance optimization to improve application and report performance.
• Support technical development for data migration, conversions, interfaces, and legacy-system integration.
• Lead development activities throughout unit testing, integration testing, UAT, cutover, go-live, and production stabilization.
• Coordinate transports, releases, defect resolution, code deployments, and technical dependencies with Basis and release-management teams.
• Collaborate with SAP architects to ensure technical solutions align with overall S/4HANA architecture and enterprise standards.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, task assignments, and development oversight to SAP developers.
• Prepare and maintain technical specifications, development documentation, interface specifications, code-review documentation, and deployment instructions.
• Coordinate with internal teams, SAP, vendors, and implementation partners to resolve technical development issues.

Required Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development and SAP technical development.
• Strong hands-on development experience with SAP S/4HANA .
• Experience serving as an SAP Technical Lead, Development Lead, Lead ABAP Developer, or Senior SAP Developer .
• Strong expertise in ABAP, ABAP Objects (OO ABAP), Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms, and Workflows (RICEFW/RICEF) .
• Strong experience with CDS Views, OData services, and modern S/4HANA development techniques .
• Experience with RAP (RESTful ABAP Programming Model) or similar modern SAP development frameworks.
• Experience developing and supporting SAP Fiori/UI5 applications and SAP Gateway services .
• Experience with BAdIs, User Exits, Enhancement Framework, BAPIs, RFCs, IDocs, APIs, and web services .
• Experience developing integrations between SAP S/4HANA and external/third-party applications.
• Understanding of SAP BTP and S/4HANA extension approaches.
• Strong knowledge of SAP HANA , SQL-based development, performance tuning, and code optimization.
• Experience with debugging, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and production support.
• Experience with SAP transport management and development lifecycle processes.
• Understanding of SAP authorization and secure-development practices.
• Experience reviewing technical specifications and conducting peer/code reviews.
• Strong understanding of S/4HANA clean-core and extensibility principles .
• Ability to translate functional requirements into detailed technical specifications and working SAP solutions.
• Strong technical leadership, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SAP ECC to S/4HANA conversion or transformation programs .
• Experience remediating legacy ABAP/custom code during an S/4HANA migration.
• Hands-on experience with SAP BTP development and side-by-side extensions .
• Experience with SAP Integration Suite/CPI .
• Knowledge of SAP Business Application Studio and modern SAP development tooling.
• Experience with Adobe Forms, Smart Forms, SAPscript, and workflow development .
• Experience with BRF+, Flexible Workflow, and S/4HANA embedded analytics .
• Understanding of RISE with SAP and S/4HANA Cloud environments.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, and SAP transport/release automation .
• Familiarity with SAP Cloud ALM and/or Solution Manager.
• SAP certification in ABAP, S/4HANA Development, Fiori, BTP, or related SAP technologies is preferred.
• Experience leading offshore/onshore or geographically distributed SAP development teams is preferred.
