Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position : Under supervision, the nurse provides professional nursing care to patients/clients within an assigned unit. Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating responses to actual or potential health problems through nursing methods and techniques such as case‑finding, health teaching, counseling, and supportive care. Examples Of Typical Tasks Identifies and discriminates between physical and psychosocial signs and symptoms, and selects therapeutic measures essential for effective nursing care. Develops, implements, and continually evaluates the nursing regimen for assigned patients/clients. Records and maintains nursing care plans and progress notes to ensure continuity of care. Interprets and reports patients’ responses to appropriate members of the health team. Participates with interdisciplinary team members to plan a comprehensive patient care program. Determines and assigns components of the nursing regimen that may be carried out by allied nursing personnel. Provides teaching, guidance, and direction to allied nursing personnel in patient care. Participates in defining, implementing, maintaining, and interpreting nursing practice standards. Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary conferences concerning policies and procedures affecting nursing practice. Contributes to determining conditions, resources, and policies essential to delivering nursing care services. Maintains professional competence through continuing education and other learning experiences. Performs other professional nursing activities as delegated by nursing administration. Minimum Qualifications A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. Valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA). Special Note For assignments in Post‑Acute Care ONLY, individuals who have graduated from a nursing education program registered by the NYSED as licensure‑qualifying for RN and have applied for licensure may be considered for appointment. These unlicensed individuals may be employed under the immediate supervision of a licensed RN for up to 90 days following graduation, pending receipt of a limited permit. After receiving the limited permit, they may practice under supervision for up to one year from the date of issuance. Valid BLS certification is required.
