Overview Department Summary The Aviation and Technology Department at San Jose State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Aviation (BS Aviation) and a Master of Science in Quality Assurance (MSQA). The Aviation Program has four options: Professional Flight (Pilots), Aviation Management (Management), Flight Operations (Operations), and Maintenance Management (Maintenance). The program has 270 students and a Flight Simulation Lab with over 10 simulators and access to Reid‑Hillview Airport. Website: Responsibilities Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population—including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation—through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement. Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). Provide all classes as scheduled throughout the semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bimodular, in‑person, or hybrid). Work with the Department Chair and Course Coordinators to develop course materials, teach courses effectively, maintain appropriate office hours in accordance with University Policy, and cooperate with the department in the peer‑review process. Seek guidance from the Department Chair for clarification on University policies and department practices related to grading, testing, textbooks, office hours, curriculum goals, disability accommodations, academic integrity, and other relevant matters. Qualifications Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, as might have been gained in cross‑cultural study, training, teaching, and related experience. Hold a Ph.D. or M.S. in the relevant field or related areas. In exceptional cases, a B.S. with several years of experience may suffice. Industry experience is highly desirable. Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline to which the individual is assigned. Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work. Compensation Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. Anticipated starting salary ranges are listed below. Monthly salaries are for full‑time academic year faculty; part‑time rates are prorated. L-A / Range 2: $5,507 – $5,959 L-B / Range 3: $6,221 – $7,481 L-C / Range 4: $6,825 – $9,431 L-D / Range 5: $8,593 – $10,347 Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate of full‑time academic year faculty—there are six monthly payments per semester. Employment Conditions Faculty employees must complete CSU employee training as assigned and required, including prevention of discrimination and harassment, gender equity and Title IX, health and safety, and Clery Act training. The faculty member in this position will be subject to ongoing review for designation as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). Individuals designated as Campus Security Authorities are required to immediately report Clery incidents to the institution and complete necessary training. Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and is subject to the order‑of‑assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and the California Faculty Association. These provisions state the order in which available courses are assigned to faculty, starting with tenure‑line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.
