Job Description POSITION SUMMARY The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The RN utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The RN oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and ensures consistency with the medical treatment plan. Patient care process includes: Assessment – identification, gathering, and organization of subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient/family/significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural. Planning – identification of actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) that result in a documented plan of care. The plan provides direction for the patient/family/significant other and interdisciplinary team. Intervention – specific interventions or orders implemented consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan. Evaluation – determination of the effectiveness of interventions in achieving the plan of care, and determination of conclusions concerning achievement or lack of achievement of desired outcomes. This step may initiate the need for reassessment and revisions to the problems, goals, plan of care, and interventions. The evaluation provides for documentation of required actions. Based upon findings identified during assessment and reassessment: Patients have problems identified and prioritized relative to biophysical, psychological, environmental, self‑care, educational, and social status. Goals are identified consistent with the problem to provide direction for patient care and health promotion. Education is consistent with the identified problem and associated goals and is seen as critical to creating an environment that promotes patient empowerment. Employee may be required to perform limited laboratory services, including patient identification and preparation for specimen collection, processing samples for testing, performing required quality control testing and instrument maintenance and function checks, monitoring, recording, and reporting test results to clinicians, including critical values, and maintaining competency/certification of the aforementioned tasks and duties. Licensed and registered care providers are responsible for utilizing the care process relative to their scope of practice and knowledge base, and may document the assessment, plan, intervention, and evaluation. All patient care activities are administered according to standards, procedural guidelines, and organizational policy. The RN actively supports performance improvement initiatives and provides leadership to other members of the patient care team. By participating in educational activities, the RN assumes responsibility for continued professional and personal growth. QUALIFICATIONS Education / License Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Nurses hired without a BSN must be enrolled in a BSN program within one year and complete the program within three years. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or a current multi‑state license required. BLS required. Valid NJ driver’s license required for all employees in the Adult and Child Partial Programs. Experience Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents will receive training and be required to skill‑level this position within 30‑60 days from date of hire. Operating room, medical/surgical, and OR experience preferred. ACLS required by 6/30/24 for all RN in the City OR. CNOR preferred. ACLS preferred. Performance Expectations Demonstrates the ability to perform the department‑specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. Work Environment Potential exposure to the hazards and risks of the hospital environment, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous substances, and infectious disease. Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Extensive standing and walking, including stairs. Lifting approximately 25‑50 pounds frequently. Lifting approximately 50‑100 pounds with assistance occasionally. Pushing and pulling of heavy equipment. Some departments require the ability to distinguish colors. Essential functions of this position are listed on the department‑specific Assessment and Evaluation Tool. Work Environment in the Electrophysiology Lab & Procedural Areas Potential exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous substances, latex exposure, radiation exposure, and potential injury. Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Extensive standing (wearing lead) and walking, including stairs. Lifting approximately 25‑50 pounds frequently. Lifting approximately 50‑100 pounds with assistance occasionally. Pushing and pulling of heavy equipment. Transporting patients on stretchers unassisted. Manual dexterity to hand off instruments. Maneuver in small work areas congested with cords, foot pedals and various equipment consoles. Move patients from beds/stretchers to procedure tables and from procedure tables to stretchers or beds.
