Job Overview Position: III‑V Processing Intern Location: CO – Golden Type: Intern (Fixed Term) Hours per week: 40 About NLR National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is located in Golden, Colorado and is the nation’s primary laboratory for energy systems research and development. NLR focuses on foundational science, applied systems engineering, and analysis to deliver advanced, secure, reliable, and cost‑effective energy solutions that support industry growth and national economic development. Responsibilities Assist in developing large‑area semiconductor processing and characterization as part of DOE’s METALLIC initiative. Implement cleanroom processing of electronic devices, including lithography, metal deposition, and chemical etching. Use characterization techniques—X‑ray diffraction, microscopy, current–voltage, and optical probing—to determine material and device quality of III‑V semiconductor devices. Gain significant experience in device processing and characterization while helping the III‑V team meet research goals. Qualifications Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA Undergraduate: full‑time enrollment in a bachelor’s program (or earned bachelor’s within past 12 months). Eligible for up to one year internship. Graduate: full‑time enrollment in a master’s program (or earned master’s within past 12 months). Eligible for up to one year internship. Graduate + PhD: completed master’s and enrolled as a PhD student. Applicants must upload official or unofficial transcripts and may need a letter of recommendation. Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date. Preferred Qualifications Experience in cleanroom processing, including lithography and chemical etching. Experience in characterizing semiconductor materials and devices (X‑ray diffraction, electron microscopy, luminescence techniques, current–voltage measurements, or device‑specific characterization). All candidates will be considered whether or not they meet all preferred qualifications. Salary and Benefits Annual Salary Range (full‑time 40hrs per week): $44,500 – $71,200. Benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance; 403(b) employee savings plan with employer match; sick leave as required by law. Interns working less than 20 hrs per week are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits. Relocation expense reimbursement may be available for some positions.
