Engineer I

Responsibilities Reviews Erosion and Sediment Control plans under the standard review process to determine adequacy and compliance. Performs reviews, schedules and conducts meetings with applicants, consultants, and other interested parties to discuss project feasibility/design and/or compliance with sedimentation laws and rules. Inspects sites/facilities regulated under each of DEMLR’s four programs: Sedimentation Control, Stormwater, Dam Safety, and Mining. Advises and provides engineering guidance and written technical/compliance documentation to Environmental Specialists before, during, and after project site inspections. Answers questions from the regulated community and responds to complaints and inquiries from the general public at the site by telephone and through written correspondence. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification: May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. Hybrid Telework: This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays.
