A day in the life

You arrive at a dedicated rework cell where every thousandth matters. Your primary workstation is a Pratt & Whitney 2E manual vertical jig borer—vintage 1950s/60s—outfitted with a DRO and a rotary table. There are no setup sheets, so you study inch-based prints, interpret GD&T, and plan the fixture and rotary alignment yourself. Each aluminum billet GEnx FMU housing you touch has 1–2 unique features (out of roughly 100) that need rework, meaning you’ll set up for every part. On a typical day you’ll successfully rework about 10–12 parts, boring holes from 1–3 inches in diameter to depths of 6–8 inches—many of them shallow features—while holding .001 inch tolerances.

What you’ll do

• Set up and operate a Pratt & Whitney 2E manual vertical jig bore with DRO and rotary table
• Work exclusively from prints (no setup sheets) and determine fixturing and rotary alignment to execute precision boring rework
• Use instructions that specify which features require rework—then define the “how” yourself
• Process a variety of aluminum parts up to 24" square; most are ~12" long and ~5" wide/diameter
• Rework 10–12 parts per day, with unique setups for each individual FMU housing

Quality expectations

• Interpret inch-based prints with heavy GD&T usage; strong GD&T comprehension is critical
• Follow dimensional control plans to verify hole size; all parts proceed to QC for CMM verification
• Maintain .001" tolerances in a rework environment where incoming parts have prior-process issues
