Licensed Optician

Job Overview Licensed Opticians are responsible for selling and dispensing eyewear and accessories to patients. They ensure patients are fitted with the right-size frames and dispense lenses with correct prescriptions and measurements. Licensed Opticians are at the heart of our business, providing technical expertise and customer service that drives patient satisfaction and repeat business. Location Hopkinton, Massachusetts, USA Work Schedule Full-time Responsibilities Deliver extraordinary experience to each patient and provide a complete understanding of customized recommendations for products and services. Custom fit glasses and precisely place prescription medications in lenses. Develop own clientele via outstanding service and referrals. Assist co‑workers with complex product needs and prescriptions. Keep current on company and industry products, procedures, manufacturer rebates, and available lens and frame types. Take and return patient calls, update patients on order status, and resolve issues when they arise; escape to Store Manager as necessary. Retrieve patient charts and electronic health records. Assist patients in selecting frames, lens types, and treatments including tints and coatings based on facial measurements. Educate patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care. Collect eye and face measurements to ensure proper fit. Interpret prescriptions written by optometrist and ophthalmologist. Create work orders for lab technicians specifying required lens information. Follow up on all pending orders, verify time guidelines, and inform patients of status or delays. Dispense glasses by inspecting, checking fit, adjusting, and soliciting feedback. Adjust eyewear to ensure visual acuity, fit, and comfort; perform repairs using appropriate tools. Proficient with tools such as pupilometers, PD sticks, lensometers, pliers, wrenches, and frame warmers. Communicate regularly with technicians, store managers, and front‑desk associates to provide patient information and order status. Inspect final product, clean and polish lenses, and maintain overall store appearance. Clean and organize frame boards, displays, mirrors, workbench, office area, bathroom, and breakroom. Restock retail boards with new merchandise. Analyze product issues and answer patients’ questions regarding insurance, warranties, pricing, promotions, etc. Collaborate with technicians, front‑desk associates, managers, and optometrist. Sell miscellaneous products such as cleaners, contact lens supplies, sunglasses, and safety glasses. Requirements High School Diploma. State licensure. Optical dispensing experience. Minimum of one year of experience working as an Optician (strongly preferred). Experience with HIPAA requirements (preferred). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer service skills and pleasant demeanor; sales experience preferred. Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination.
