Job Description

The Maintenance Supervisor provides day-to-day leadership and direction to maintenance employees to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of maintenance services in a production environment. This role oversees preventive and predictive maintenance programs, supports troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical systems, and ensures compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and applicable laws. The Maintenance Supervisor serves as a key resource and escalation point for the team, coaching and mentoring employees while coordinating maintenance activities to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear work direction and supervision to maintenance employees to ensure effective and efficient delivery of maintenance services.
• Prioritize and assign daily jobs and work orders, ensuring tasks are clearly communicated and properly understood by maintenance staff.
• Oversee pass-down issues between shifts to maintain continuity of maintenance activities and effective communication.
• Monitor daily maintenance activities to ensure safe work practices, adherence to procedures, and efficient operation of the maintenance function.
• Implement and maintain an effective predictive and preventive maintenance program for all assets to reduce unscheduled downtime and extend equipment life.
• Develop and apply maintenance strategies so assets are maintained on time and in optimal condition, helping to minimize the costs associated with equipment breakdowns.
• Use systems such as SAP to plan and schedule maintenance tasks, including estimating time requirements, identifying necessary parts, and documenting job descriptions.
• Maximize maintenance productivity during normal plant operation, wash cycles, planned downtime, and periodic maintenance shutdowns by using project management tools and charts.

Essential Skills

• Proven supervisory and management skills in a maintenance or industrial environment.
• Experience in warehouse operations, warehouse management, and warehouse inventory processes as they relate to maintenance support.
• Hands-on industrial electrical maintenance experience, including working with 240-volt and 480-volt systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in production equipment.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics, including troubleshooting and repair.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience with mechanical maintenance and repair of industrial equipment.
• Experience implementing and supporting preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLCs and ladder logic for troubleshooting and basic programming or adjustments.
• Ability to perform conduit bending and install or modify electrical conduit runs.
• Strong safety mindset with the ability to enforce and model safe work practices in compliance with OSHA regulations.
• Proficiency using computerized maintenance management systems and databases for work orders and record keeping.
• Ability to use systems such as SAP (or similar) for maintenance task planning, scheduling, and parts management.
• Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to support root cause analysis on equipment breakdowns.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound decisions in the absence of the maintenance manager.
• Effective communication skills to provide clear instructions, feedback, and guidance to maintenance staff.
• Organizational skills to prioritize multiple tasks, manage work orders, and coordinate activities during planned and unplanned downtime.

• Experience working in an industrial production or food processing environment.
• Process improvement and continuous improvement within a maintenance function.
• Experience with project management tools and charts to plan and track maintenance during planned downtime and shutdowns.
• Familiarity with developing or updating maintenance procedures and departmental policies.
• Experience supporting capital projects and special projects from a maintenance perspective.
• Exposure to safety programs and initiatives within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
• Ability to coach, mentor, and develop maintenance employees to enhance technical skills and performance.
• Comfort working with inventory and supply chain personnel to manage spare parts and maintenance materials.

Work Environment

The role operates in a production facility that manufactures ice cream products for multiple clients. Maintenance employees work around industrial equipment, electrical systems, and mechanical components in a plant setting. The position requires comfort working in low-temperature conditions and around moisture on a regular basis. Uniforms are provided and are expected to be worn in accordance with company guidelines, supporting safety, hygiene, and professionalism in the facility. The work may involve responding to equipment issues during normal plant operations, wash cycles, and planned downtime, requiring flexibility and a strong focus on safety and equipment reliability.

This is a Permanent position based out of Rockford, IL.

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $100000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
