divh2Central Service Technician (Laurel Surgery Center)/h2pThe Technician, Central Service performs a wide array of duties to provide sterile instrumentation and trays to the Department of Surgery and other hospital departments. Works under the direction of the Sr. Technician for Central Services or Operating Room Management./ppEssential Job Functions/pulliDecontaminates and inspects surgical instruments/liliCleans and decontaminates reusable patient equipment/liliAssembles instrument trays/liliWraps instrument tray or places instruments in proper sterilization container/liliOperates sterilizers per department procedure/liliPerforms biological monitoring and recordkeeping of sterilization cycles (steam, eto, sterrad)/liliManually cleans case carts after use/liliTransports clean carts and instruments as needed between departments./liliConducts daily testing and completes and maintains all records for the SPD units./liliPrepares loan/consign instruments./liliDelivers additional trays and supplies to O.R./liliPerforms housekeeping functions - keeps area neat and organized./liliRetrieves soiled carts/instruments following the procedures from both the OR and Labor and Delivery/liliUses proper etiquette when answering phones/liliCleans sterilizer chambers and carts as set forth in policy/liliPick cases including add-ons/liliFill all needs on carts/liliOrganize case supplies and equipment for use by the OR Circulator and Technician/liliReprocess and store all assigned scopes as per manufactures instructions/liliFollow chain of care for communication of issues/li/ulpRequired Qualifications/pulliHigh School Diploma, GED or next level of higher education./liliStrong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment./liliStrong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience./liliBasic working knowledge of computers and office equipment./li/ulpPreferred Qualifications/pulliOne (1)- three (3) years of Central Service experience./liliCRCST and/or a Surgical Technician background./li/ulpLicense, Certification Clearances/pulliAs of September 1, 2017, any new or transferred employee must currently hold or obtain within 18 months of employment one of the following certifications: Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or HealthCare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)./liliAct 81 Compliance./liliAct 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system./li/ulpSupervisory Responsibilities/pulliThis position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department./li/ulpPosition Type/Expected Hours of Work/pulliIncumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.)./liliTravel may be expected locally between Excela Health locations./li/ulpEqual Employment Opportunity/ppIndependence Health and its affiliated companies are Equal Opportunity Employers.
