CNC Lathe Operator

This role operates CNC lathes and related tools to machine high-quality components within defined specifications and tolerances. The lathe operator sets up and runs equipment, performs in-process inspections, and maintains accurate production records while supporting a safe, efficient, and quality-focused manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

• Operate CNC lathes and related tools and equipment to machine components to specified dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards.
• Produce the required quantity of parts within established specifications, tolerances, and production targets.
• Perform in-process inspections to verify part dimensions, quality, and conformance to blueprints and work instructions.
• Clean and inspect equipment prior to use to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Perform basic and routine adjustments and maintenance on machines to maintain optimal performance.
• Identify and effectively communicate machine malfunctions or issues to the appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Maintain accurate logs and records of units produced, including documentation of errors, rework, and machine adjustments.
• Follow verbal and written instructions, including blueprints, routings, and standard operating procedures.
• Adhere to safety procedures and Quality Management System policies at all times while working on the shop floor.
• Manage time effectively to keep production on schedule and help meet customer delivery dates.
• Carry out other duties as assigned or required to support production and continuous improvement activities.

Essential Skills:

• Familiarity with general lathe machine operation and mechanical skills.
• Hands-on experience operating CNC lathes and related machining equipment.
• Mechanical problem-solving abilities and troubleshooting skills for machine and process issues.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and work from written and verbal directions.
• Proficiency in reading and using measuring instruments and gauges to verify part dimensions.
• Ability to identify and correctly use tooling and hardware required for machining operations.
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on producing accurate and high-quality parts.
• Self-motivation and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Effective time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet production schedules.
• Ability to multi-task and handle multiple jobs or priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of the importance of keeping production on schedule to meet customer delivery dates.
• Understanding and adherence to safety procedures and Quality Management System policies.
• At least two years of related experience desired in lathe operation or similar machining roles.
• Ability to work prolonged periods on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions involving frequent bending and stooping.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed during normal work activities.
• Sufficient visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines safely, and inspect parts produced.

Work Environment:

This position is based in a machine shop environment in Santee, working primarily with CNC lathes and related machining equipment. The role involves standing for prolonged periods, frequent bending and stooping, and regular use of hand tools and measuring instruments. The standard schedule follows a 9/80 work pattern with typical hours from 5:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., providing a predictable daytime shift. The environment is production-oriented, with an emphasis on safety, cleanliness around machines, and adherence to established procedures and quality standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Santee, CA.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
