Maintenance MechanicThe incumbent performs work in one or more of the skilled building or service trades, on a journeyman level, in the maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and facilities. Does related work as required.Essential functions include:Regular daily attendanceAmbulatory; ability to walk and carry heavy items and to be able to operate all related power equipmentGood vision; ability to see well enough to meet standards set by supervisor or districtPhysical strength; enough strength to lift, move, and carry heavy items throughout the day (heavy items are defined as those that weigh over fifty (50) pounds)Intelligence; must be able to evaluate a problem, devise and implement a solutionSocial skills; must be able to work in a team environmentPerformance responsibilities include:Performs skilled work with one or more of the building or service tradesPerforms work in the plumbing and heating tradePerforms minor electrical workPlans work, estimates material and supplies required, may read blueprints to determine outcome of work indicated, interprets diagrams, charts and specifications, requests supplies and equipmentOperates power equipment hand tools and testing equipment, maintains equipment and shop in good conditionMay repair trucks, tractors, lawn mowers, and other equipmentCleans and paints walls, woodwork and floorsMay be required to perform occasional cleaning dutiesOther tasks as assignedReports to the Maintenance Mechanic Crew Chief, or an administrative employee of higher rank who assigns, observes and monitors the work.May supervise and train lower level maintenance workers and laborers assigned to assist in the performance of related work.
