A Shelving and Rack Upfitter job involves designing, building, and installing custom shelving and cargo management systems for vehicles, typically work vans and trucks, to optimize storage and organization. These systems include racks, ladders, shelves, drawers, truck boxes, and partitions to enhance workspace functionality and security. The position requires technical skills to mount racks, understand wiring diagrams, and troubleshoot electrical issues, as well as the ability to work with basic tools and vehicle components. 

Responsibilities of a Van & Truck Upfitter:

• Evaluation: 

• Assessing customer needs and vehicle specifications to determine the best upfit solution. 

• Design: 

• Creating custom designs for shelving systems, taking into account the vehicle's dimensions and user requirements. 

• Installation: 

• Installing shelving, drawers, truck boxes, and other accessories securely and efficiently. 

• Mounting roof racks, crossbars, and other components on various vehicles, ensuring proper fit and secure installation

• Testing & Basic Vehicle Work: 

• Testing the upfit to ensure it meets the user's needs and functions correctly. 

• Disassembling and reassembling vehicle components, such as trim pieces, to access mounting points and install accessories. 

• Troubleshooting & Repair: 

• Addressing any issues that may arise during the installation process. 

• Diagnosing and resolving issues related to Thule systems, including electrical problems, loose connections, or mounting problems.

• Providing support and maintenance services for the installed systems. 

• Electrical Work:

• Working with vehicle wiring systems to power accessories like lights or power converters, potentially including splicing and soldering. 

• Customer Service, Record Keeping and Safety:

• Maintaining accurate records of parts used, work performed, and any issues encountered during installations. 

• Working closely with customers to understand their needs and ensure satisfaction. 

• Communicating with customers about installation details, addressing questions, and providing assistance.

• Ensuring vehicles are safe for customers by following safety protocols and procedures. 

Key Skills and Qualifications:

• Technical Skills: 

• Proficiency in using tools, measuring and cutting materials, and understanding vehicle specifications. 

• Problem-solving: 

• Ability to identify and resolve issues during the installation process. 

• Communication: 

• Excellent communication skills to interact with customers and other team members. 

• Attention to Detail: 

• Ability to work with precision and ensure a high-quality installation. 

• Physical Stamina: 

• Ability to lift and handle heavy materials. 

• Mechanical Aptitude: 

• Understanding of vehicle mechanics and ability to adapt to different vehicle types. 

Additional Information:

• Experience: Some positions may require experience in automotive repair, emergency vehicle upfitting, or related fields. 

• Certifications: ASE certifications or other relevant certifications may be advantageous. 

• Work Environment: The job may involve working in a shop or on-site at customer locations.
