Hand Therapy Fellow, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Division of Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapy Division of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine has a full-time Fellow position available in Hand Therapy. This post-graduate fellowship is on an annual, 12-month appointment, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2026.
The fellowship provides a full-time annual base salary of $61,008 - $68,004 ($5,084 - $5,667/month) and package that includes paid holidays, health insurance, and vacation and sick leave. Medical, dental, malpractice insurance, and retirement benefits are included.
A joint commitment between the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine's Division of Occupational Therapy at the University of Washington (UW) and Harborview Medical Center (HMC) Hand Therapy Clinic to provide further education in hand therapy, the Hand Therapy Fellowship mission is to inspire the next generation of hand therapists to develop and employ the highest ethical standards, clinical reasoning, and evidence-based practice to rehabilitate clients, and build a network of qualified CHTs throughout the WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho) region.
This close relationship between UW and HMC provides our Hand Therapy Fellow with a combination of both academic and clinical exposure that offer a unique and unparalleled perspective for work in this field. The Fellowship offers the opportunity to be mentored by experienced clinicians and to act as a mentor for Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) students. The Fellow will get extensive experience in post-trauma hand therapy, treating our most vulnerable populations and also directly contributing to the classroom.
The Hand Therapy Fellow's time will be allocated as 75% patient care (no holiday or weekend requirements), 25% didactic learning and teaching. The Fellow will collaborate with hand surgeons and hand surgery fellows; attend weekly lectures with attending surgeons, hand surgery fellows and surgical residents; and participate in daily collaboration with the Hand Therapy Team. The Fellow will participate in interdisciplinary lectures with our colleagues in the Physical Therapy residency programs, as well as in Journal Club and clinical education meetings with the Hand Therapy Team. There will be opportunities to teach in the MOT graduate program, as well as for leadership and advocacy. The Fellow will receive 1:1 mentorship with an experienced team of certified hand therapists.
As the region's only Level I Trauma Center, Harborview Medical Center (HMC) is well known for innovations and excellence in trauma care and its centers of emphasis: Trauma, Burn, Neurosciences, AIDS/STD CARER, and mentally and medically vulnerable populations. In addition to the centers of emphasis, HMC's mission is to serve the vulnerable populations of King County. Harborview employees are committed to the vital role the institution plays in the immediate community, as well as the entire Northwest region. Owned by King County and managed by the University of Washington, HMC serves as a training site for UW's School of Medicine.
