Senior Planner

This position is with the City of Coachella, located at 53990 Enterprise Way, Coachella, California, 92236. The salary range is $111,933.48 - $136,055.88 annually. The job is full-time and the application period is from August 12, 2026, to August 26, 2026, at 6:00 PM Pacific Time.

The role involves administering advanced and complex current and advance planning activities, serving as project manager for complex development applications and special projects, and overseeing various studies and preparing staff reports. The position requires general supervision from the Community Development Director and provides technical and functional direction over planning division staff.

The job requires knowledge of modern principles and practices of urban and regional planning, zoning, urban economics, demographics, and environmental planning and program management. It also requires the ability to interpret and explain planning and zoning programs to the public, read plans and specifications, assess environmental impacts, conduct research projects, and represent the department in meetings with various agencies and organizations.

Education typically includes graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in urban planning, community development, business or public administration, or a related field, and three years of professional experience in planning, zoning, and related community development activities. A valid California class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and automobile insurance is required.

Physical demands include mobility to work in a standard office setting, use of standard office equipment, and the ability to inspect City development sites, including traversing uneven terrain and operating a motor vehicle. Environmental elements may include exposure to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, and hazardous physical substances and fumes.
