Position Overview

Our organization is proud to present the Ripon Community Hospital, a modern facility established in 2014. The Medical-Surgical Department features 13 beds and is linked to a 3-bed ICU. We maintain a patient-to-nurse ratio of 4:1 during the day and 5:1 at night, with Certified Nursing Assistants available on all shifts. Additionally, we provide 24/7 security to ensure the safety of both patients and staff. Nurses work 12-hour shifts and are scheduled every third weekend. Due to our smaller size, we have the opportunity to form meaningful connections with our patients.

Job Summary

The role involves delivering direct nursing care in alignment with the established policies, procedures, and protocols of our healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply medical-surgical nursing standards to enhance patient care and quality of life for patients, families, and significant others by systematically assessing the effectiveness of nursing practices.
• Build effective relationships and advocate for patients and their families to create personalized care plans.
• Utilize the nursing process to formulate and execute care plans, gather assessment data, establish nursing diagnoses, identify expected outcomes, and evaluate patient results.
• Develop management strategies considering various dimensions of human responses to health issues, including physical, cultural, social, and spiritual aspects.
• Demonstrate understanding of how illnesses affect patients' overall status.
• Employ leadership skills to coordinate with patients, families, and the inter-professional team in assessing needs and planning interventions.
• Engage in effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare providers to ensure culturally sensitive and ethical care.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion and comfort measures.
• Contribute to a positive work environment by mentoring nursing colleagues and students.
• Incorporate evidence-based practices into medical-surgical nursing to meet age-specific and clinical needs.
• Maintain a state of alertness and safety while performing duties.
• Conduct point-of-care testing as per established protocols.
• Perform additional tasks as required.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing school or equivalent educational background for licensing.
• Experience: No prior experience necessary.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly communicate verbally to share information.
• Frequent standing and walking.
• Occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
• Frequent use of vision for near and far distances, as well as color differentiation.
• Regularly utilize hearing to receive oral communication and detect alarms.
• Occasional driving and physical movements such as bending and twisting.

Licenses and Certifications

Depending on the state of work location, the following certifications are required:

• Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
• Registered Nurse (RN) - State-specific licensing body (e.g., Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin)
